Vedantu vs Cuemath: which actually fits your child?

Skoolur is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to either Vedantu or Cuemath. We are a third provider and we compete with both, so weigh the verdict below with that in mind. One does one subject well. The other does every subject. That is most of the answer.

Vedantu and Cuemath are constantly compared, but they don't actually compete for the same role. One serves parents who need help across all subjects; the other serves parents who want a maths specialist. These are different needs. Most listicle pages that rank for this phrase fail both—they list features side by side and leave you guessing. This page gives the choice plainly, including what is publicly known about each provider's problems.

These two companies are frequently compared, but the comparison often skips an important fact: they are not actually addressing the same learning need. Cuemath teaches mathematics only, drawing from its own custom curriculum rather than your child's school textbook. Vedantu offers teaching across multiple subjects—CBSE, ICSE and competitive exam preparation—available in both group and one-to-one formats.

A parent asking 'which is better' without first specifying the subject is asking something neither company can genuinely answer honestly. The question that is far more useful is more specific and focused: does your child need help with mathematics alone, or does she need help across two or more different subjects - English, science, social science or Hindi as well?

This is a common, specific question worth working through. Your Class 7 child is fine in English and science, keeps up in class discussion, but loses marks specifically on fraction and ratio problems - not from carelessness, but because underlying number sense was never solid.

This is close to what Cuemath's own curriculum targets: a narrow, structural gap in mathematical reasoning rather than a syllabus catch-up. A maths-only, curriculum-led approach may fix this more efficiently than a broader multi-subject provider spending only part of its time on maths each week. But if your child is also behind in maths homework generally and struggling to keep pace in two other subjects at once, that points the other way - to Vedantu's coordinated coverage. The deciding factor is how narrow the actual gap is, not which brand gets more discussion.

A useful test you can run at home before paying either company: look at your child's last two school tests and mark them chapter by chapter for which questions were lost to a wrong method versus a wrong final answer from a right method. If losses cluster on one topic, that supports a specialist curriculum-led fix. If losses scatter across several chapters and other subjects too, that supports the broader coordinated option instead.

Cuemath uses a proprietary maths curriculum focused on reasoning and number sense rather than following the school syllabus chapter by chapter. For a child with a real gap in how they think about maths—not just this term's material—this works well because it builds foundation instead of just covering what's coming next.

The downside is coverage. If your child's immediate problem is a school test on a specific chapter next month, a curriculum running on its own schedule may not align. Before enrolling, ask exactly how closely Cuemath's material matches your child's board and current unit.

There's also a longer-term trade-off worth recognizing. A reasoning-based curriculum pays off most for younger children who have time to develop number sense before exams matter—it's a weaker choice for a Class 9 or 10 student who needs to recover marks on a specific paper in the next few months, where following the school's own working method might matter more than a slower but deeper approach.

Vedantu's advantage over a subject-only provider is coordination. One company teaching maths, science and English means one central point to raise concerns that affect multiple subjects, and a single schedule of live sessions rather than managing several.

But breadth does not guarantee equal quality across subjects, and it does not address the operational problems documented in Vedantu's public reviews. Parents report teachers missing classes after payment, delays in plan activation, and difficulty obtaining refunds. Breadth is worth considering, but never without checking these reviews first.

There is a second, often overlooked drawback to breadth: coordination only benefits your child if someone is actively managing it. Some platforms assign a different teacher per subject without sharing a view of your child's overall progress. You get the convenience of one provider's schedule without the actual coordination benefits. Ask directly: does this service have a single point of contact who understands your child's full picture, or are they just three separate teachers billing through one account?

A demo class from either company is designed to sell, so the useful questions are the ones a marketing script does not cover. Watch the whole session, not just the first five minutes. Ask your questions immediately afterwards, while the details are fresh – a provider who answers straightforwardly will tell you something no glossy brochure can.

• For Cuemath: how does this map to my child's actual chapter? If a school test on a specific topic is coming up next month, ask directly: does their curriculum pace match it, or do they run on their own schedule regardless?
• For Vedantu: who teaches which subject, and is it the same teacher every week? Coordinated subjects only work if the teacher assigned to maths or science stays consistent. A rotating teacher loses the advantage that breadth is supposed to provide.
• For both: how many children share the live session? Ask for the number, not the word "small". A group of twenty behaves completely differently from a group of three or a one-to-one class, whatever either company's marketing materials suggest.
• For both: what happens if we want to stop mid-term? Ask before you pay, given what Vedantu's own public reviews say about refunds specifically.

The comparison that matters is per hour and per child, not the monthly fee. Divide your monthly fee by the number of sessions, then by each session's length, then see how many children are in the room - a price quoted across a large batch is a completely different product from the same price for one child alone.

Vedantu's one-to-one stands at roughly Rs 1,400 an hour - a genuine number worth using as your benchmark. Cuemath's current pricing varies by format and location, so ask them directly and get it in writing before committing. It's worth trying free material first: our own maths worksheets and online tests cost nothing and show you whether the gap is in fractions, ratios, or something else entirely, before paying anyone.

When a curriculum-led maths provider isn't working, it shows as a child who solves the provider's style of problem but fails the school's version - the two approaches have quietly diverged. Check for this within the first few weeks by comparing a recent school test against what is being taught in class, rather than waiting for a report card to reveal it months later.

With a multi-subject platform, the risk is different - one subject can quietly fall behind while the others are getting attention, because nobody is monitoring the balance across all of them. If your child is learning maths, science and English with a single provider, ask for a one-line update on each subject, not just whichever one is currently under discussion. Our guide to signs that a child needs a tutor works in reverse too: use it as a checklist for whether tutoring already in place is actually helping.

If maths is the one subject causing trouble and the rest of school is fine, Cuemath's specialisation is a genuine advantage - a maths-only provider building its own curriculum can go deeper on that one subject than a multi-subject platform usually will.

If your child needs help across two or more subjects, or is heading into a board year where science and maths both need attention, Vedantu's breadth is the more practical structure - one provider, one schedule, one place to raise concerns - provided you have read its public reviews and gone in aware of the reported issues with attendance and refunds.

Neither is the right answer for every family, and neither is wrong for the reasons a listicle would tell you. The subject, not the brand, decides this one.

We are not Vedantu or Cuemath, and we weren't necessarily going to be compared at all. But since you're weighing providers, it's only fair to be clear where we sit: we teach all subjects - not maths only - in live one-to-one classes, for Class 1 through Class 10, across CBSE, ICSE and state boards.

We don't match Cuemath's specialised depth in maths, and we're smaller and newer than either company, with nothing for Class 11, 12 or competitive exams. If your child needs intensive maths training or coaching beyond Class 10, we're not the right fit - our own honest page on the Cuemath alternative question goes into this detail. If what works for your child is one-to-one with the same teacher each week, our maths teaching or published fees will show whether this suits you.
