Each page describes what genuinely changes that year, what usually goes wrong, and how the classes are run. They are grouped by the three stages NEP 2020 uses, because the teaching changes at those boundaries and so do the worries parents arrive with.
Primary years set the foundation for everything that comes after
The Foundational Stage of NEP 2020 covers Classes 1 and 2, which explains why effective teaching at this level resembles play. Learning centres on sound-letter association, isolating phonemes, and working with concrete numbers. Class 3 marks the most significant jump in Indian primary schooling: textbooks begin introducing substantive content, brief written assessments become appropriate, and comprehension shifts from factual recall to interpretation.
Class 4 and 5 introduce abstraction: fractions, longer multiplication, and reading requiring inference. Gaps fixed here cost little; gaps ignored cost much. Class 6 and beyond take these skills for granted.
Middle school involves six different teachers, not just one
The NEP 2020 Middle Stage launches at Class 6, marking a structural shift rather than an academic one. Single-teacher instruction gives way to six subject specialists. The World Around Us divides into separate Science and Social Science subjects, each with its own textbook. A third language joins the curriculum. And education starts flowing through written material the child must engage with independently, not through a teacher's live explanation.
Class 7 typically escapes parental attention - no exams, no major events, grades appear satisfactory. This oversight is precisely when gaps develop. Class 8 makes algebra non-optional because Class 9 assumes students grasp it from day one and will not reteach it. Middle school remains the last phase where you can still fix a weak foundation affordably.
Secondary encompasses the board years, without the theatre
No board formally examines Class 9, yet it significantly shapes Class 10 performance. Maths shifts from straightforward computation to proof, requiring students to justify statements rather than just calculate. Science remains technically one subject on the timetable but is internally divided into three. The pattern we see: most Class 10 problems we're called in to fix originated from gaps in Class 9 that nobody caught earlier.
Class 10 marks your child's first examination set by an examiner who has never encountered them, and this fundamental unfamiliarity rather than the syllabus itself causes most of the complications during the board year. We teach it without theatre: no guaranteed marks, no fear-based timetable, and straightforward guidance if you are starting late in the year.
Subjects, and the classes they run in
Subjects do not all start in Class 1. EVS exists only from Class 3 to Class 5; Science and Social Science begin at Class 6, when The World Around Us splits in two. Each subject is taken by a teacher who teaches that subject, not by one person covering everything.
We teach from your school’s books, not from a board template
Parents often ask which board we specialise in, and the honest answer is that below Class 9 the question matters less than it sounds. CBSE conducts board examinations only at Class 10 and Class 12, and publishes its own curriculum documents from Class 9 upwards. For Classes 1 to 8 it advises schools to follow NCERT or SCERT material, and the school chooses.
So two CBSE schools in the same city can be using different readers and different workbooks. That is why we ask which books your child actually has before the assessment, and teach from those. From Class 9 the boards do diverge properly - in how Science is papered, in how much written detail is expected, and in the shape of the exam - and the teacher we match will have taught your board at that level before.
CBSE
Board exams occur only at Class 10 and 12. For Class 1 to 8, CBSE recommends NCERT or SCERT books rather than setting a syllabus.
ICSE
Within the council's framework, schools select their textbooks, which accounts for ICSE English and separate science papers often appearing more extensive.
State boards
Most syllabi are built on NCERT, with each state adding its own language and order. We use your child's own textbook.

When we are not the right fit
We are a small teaching team, not a marketplace, and there are things we do not do. We do not run competitive exam coaching, Olympiad programmes or JEE and NEET preparation, and we do not teach above Class 10. We do not guarantee marks or ranks, because the paper is set by a board and sat by your child, and nobody who says otherwise can control it either.
We also cap batches at six rather than growing them, which means seats in a given class and time slot genuinely run out. If the slot you want is full, we will tell you that instead of putting your child in a batch two years off their level.
And after the free assessment, if we think your child does not need paid tuition, or that a different kind of help would serve them better, we will say so. It costs us a student and saves you a year.

Before you book
What subjects and class levels do you cover?
Class 1 to Class 10, every main school subject. Maths, English and Hindi continue throughout Class 1 to Class 10. Science and Social Science arrive at Class 6, when The World Around Us branches into two subjects. Phonics spans Class 1 to 3 and EVS from Class 3 to 5. Spoken English is taught at every class level, and Sanskrit, Kannada and Computer Science are taught on request.
How do you assign a teacher to my child?
We match on class, board and the specific problem. A Class 9 learner struggling with trigonometry and a Class 2 child who struggles with sound blending needs genuinely matched teachers, never just whoever is free. You meet the teacher in the free assessment and can ask for a different one afterwards, with no awkwardness.
Why are batches kept small?
That's precisely why this format matters. In a large class of forty students, quiet learners can pass an entire term unquestioned, and the students who most need assessment are frequently those who've stopped raising their hands. In a smaller group class, every student gets asked something during every single session. When they hesitate, we notice it immediately in that very class.
Which curriculum do you teach—CBSE, ICSE or state?
All three, taught from your school's own textbooks. That distinction matters more than parents expect at primary level, because CBSE prescribes no syllabus for Class 1 to 8—instead it recommends NCERT or SCERT resources and schools determine. ICSE schools choose within the council's framework. So we ask which books your child actually has, rather than teaching a generic version of the board.
Is individual tutoring more effective than group learning?
It is better for some children and worse for others, and it costs more, so it is worth thinking about rather than defaulting to. One-to-one suits a student who needs to close a specific gap quickly or who freezes in front of others. A batch suits a student who learns from hearing other people reason aloud, which is most students. We will tell you which we think fits after the assessment.
My child is Class 7 but has gaps from earlier years. Can Skoolur still support them?

Where do your lessons run, and what setup do we need at home?
Classes run online across India and for Indian families abroad—we schedule around your evening, not ours. A limited number of in-person places operate in Bengaluru.
