The number is actually larger than most parents realise until they look at the figures themselves. KHDA's own published landscape data shows 99,603 students attending the 34 Indian-curriculum schools, which represents 25.7% of every student in Dubai's private schools. India is the largest single student nationality in the emirate's private schools, and also the largest teacher nationality as well.

The quality trend is genuinely positive too, and that is worth highlighting because it challenges a common assumption held by many. On KHDA's November 2023 figures, 83% of students in Dubai's Indian-curriculum schools were enrolled in schools rated Good or Better—a rise from 73% the year before, and up significantly from just 45% when KHDA inspections began in 2009-10. Dubai's Indian schools have improved quite substantially under the inspection process.

None of this changes what a large class simply cannot accomplish: noticing that one individual child has stopped understanding a particular topic three weeks back. That is precisely the learning gap that weekly one-to-one classes are designed to fill and address.

The long-established schools include The Indian High School in Oud Metha (founded 1972), with its Al Garhoud branch serving KG1 to Grade 4; GEMS Our Own English High School (1972); Delhi Private School Jebel Ali (2003); The Millenium School; GEMS Modern Academy; Gulf Indian High School (1979); New Indian Model School (1980); and Buds Public School (1986).

Each school's KHDA inspection rating is publicly available. Since KHDA ties permitted fee increases to that rating, it's worth checking before assuming a fee rise has no justification.

This is the right question to ask, and the data actually challenges the idea that Indian-curriculum schools in Dubai are weak. According to KHDA's November 2023 figures, 83% of students were in schools rated Good or better - up from 45% when inspections started in 2009-10. That's genuine improvement over fifteen years.

But a school rating is a judgement about a school, not about your child. A Good-rated school with thirty Class 7 Maths students cannot pause for the one who fell behind three weeks ago - and their report might still show a pass. Averages hide specific gaps. A 62% in Maths tells you almost nothing about which topics failed, and that's the only thing you need to fix it.

Every class is one-to-one. The fee is AED 125 a month for 1 subject, AED 249 for 2 to 3 subjects and AED 349 for all subjects in Class 1 to 5; AED 150, AED 299 and AED 419 in Class 6 to 8 (20% more, because subjects separate out and need specialist depth); and AED 175, AED 349 and AED 489 in Class 9 and 10 (40% more, because they are board-exam years taught by subject specialists, with past papers and marking schemes); the standard plan, for 2 to 3 subjects, is 4 classes a week, 60 minutes each (16 a month). Spoken English is taught one-to-one on the same plan. Choose more or fewer classes a week and the fee moves with them.

Compare this to KHDA published school fees in the same emirate: the median is AED 14,107 annually at Grade 1 and AED 17,062 at Grade 5, with some schools charging above AED 47,000. Local in-person tutoring, usually charged by the hour, makes the comparison even more striking.
