NCERT's Maths Mela 5, which is the standard for CBSE schools and closely mirrored by most state boards at this level. ICSE studies comparable material but emphasises decimals and geometry more heavily, making the test relevant for ICSE learners as well - though ICSE pupils might find a question or two less demanding than their own textbook would present. The Maths Mela 5 is the current edition, having superseded Math-Magic, so children still working with the earlier version are learning identical topics with different sectioning.

Timing is optional and switched off initially. The first attempt should reflect what the child understands, not their performance speed under scrutiny, as a timer on an unfamiliar assessment measures anxiety equally with maths ability. The timed option allows approximately forty-five seconds per question, matching examination conditions.

Tests can be attempted any number of times. Questions derive from a bank, with the sequence and answer positions reshuffled on each attempt, making it impossible to pass through memorisation of positions. Revisiting the test after a week yields substantially more useful information than repeating it the same evening.
