What this school actually is, and who governs it
Most Indian-curriculum schools abroad teach one syllabus and sit one board's papers. This one does not. SPEA's inspection report records the examination board for New Indian Model School as Central Board of Secondary Education and, on the following line, Kerala State Board. The school's admission page says the same thing in its own words - it follows both the CBSE and Kerala Board curriculums - and its results page carries separate honours lists for Class 12 and Class 10 CBSE toppers and for Kerala Board SSLC toppers. For a family that moved from Kerala mid-schooling and wants a child to finish on the syllabus they started, that is not a marketing line, it is the answer to the question. It is also the single hardest thing to find out about a Sharjah school from anywhere else, because CBSE's register lists only CBSE and no aggregator records a second board.
The second-language list follows from the same demographic logic and is the longest in the emirate that we could verify. The school publishes six options: Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, Bengali and Arabic. That is not a brochure claim left untested - SPEA's reviewers sat in the lessons and reported on them individually, noting good listening and speaking in Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil, and specifically that writing skills were underdeveloped in Bengali. A regulator naming Bengali as a taught subject in a Sharjah classroom is about as solid as this kind of fact gets. What the school does not publish is the grade at which each option becomes available, so a parent still has to ask whether a given language runs in a given year group.
The school describes an opening in 1982 with thirty pupils; SPEA's inspection report records the same establishment year, while the authority's directory card carries 25 March 2003, which is almost certainly the licence rather than the founding. It belongs to NIMS Group UAE, founded in Dubai in 1980 by Dr M. K. Kamaluddin, which also operates New Indian Model School Dubai, The Central School Dubai, NIMS Al Ain and Imprint Sharjah. The chair of the board of governors, recorded by SPEA as Zakir Hussain Kalmaluddin, is the group's vice chairman. The inspectors noted the effect of that structure directly, observing that the school receives effective support from the group's central support team - an advantage a standalone school does not have and a dependency worth understanding.
The Itqan trajectory is the most encouraging in this batch. SPEA reviewed the school over four days on 27 to 30 January 2025 and rated it Good, up from Acceptable at the 2023-24 review. The reviewers credited improvements in mathematics, science and other subjects, outstanding attendance, teaching and assessment now good overall, very good care and support, very good relationships with parents, and very good governance. They also wrote a sentence that a parent should read before signing anything: the learning environment remains rather cramped and resources for teaching and learning are limited. That is a regulator describing a building, and it sits alongside a roll of 2,555 pupils on a campus of about 12,500 square metres, with 236 children on the special-educational-needs register.
Everyday logistics here are organised around gender and shifted start times, which is unusual enough to catch families out. The campus runs as two separate buildings. Kindergarten runs 07:00 to 10:45. The girls' section, Classes 1 to 12, runs 07:00 to 13:50. The boys' section, Classes 3 to 12, runs 08:10 to 15:20. A household with a daughter in Class 4 and a son in Class 6 is therefore managing two different school days at the same address, and the boys' day finishes an hour and a half after the girls'. The site maintains separate section pages for boys and girls at Classes 6 to 10 and again at Classes 11 and 12.
On fees the school sits near the bottom of the Sharjah range. SPEA's approved 2025-26 letter runs from AED 4,155 in kindergarten to AED 6,955 in Classes 11 and 12, tuition and books together, with uniform at AED 200 to 300. The school's own signed schedule for the same year lists AED 4,160 through AED 6,960 - five dirhams higher at every step, a rounding artefact rather than a discrepancy worth arguing about - and clarifies the billing rhythm: fees are charged over ten months, with nothing due for the July and August vacation. Transport runs AED 300 to 330 a month on top. Set against a roll of 2,555 and a Good rating, this is among the cheapest routes to an inspected, dual-board Indian education in the emirate.
Licensing, inspection and complaints sit with Sharjah Private Education Authority. The syllabus, the exams and the certificate come from CBSE, which is a different body answering different questions.
What it costs, and where that number comes from
We print the published schedule or we print nothing. No ranges, no averages, no “approximately” - a parent who budgets against an invented figure finds out at the counter.

SPEA's approved letter for 2025-26, tuition and books together, uniform charged separately at AED 200 in the lower grades and AED 300 from Class 8. The school's own signed schedule for the same year is five dirhams higher at every grade - AED 4,160 to AED 6,960 - which is a rounding difference, not a second fee. Billing runs over ten months with nothing charged in July and August, and transport adds AED 300 to 330 a month.

Fee increases are governed by SPEA, not by the school, and that is also where a fee dispute goes.
Getting a seat
Age and timing
Age is calculated as on 31 March, which the school attributes explicitly to SPEA. For the 2026-27 intake: KG 1 requires a date of birth on or before 31 March 2022, with the child at least four and under five; KG 2 on or before 31 March 2021, at least five and under six; Class 1 on or before 31 March 2020, at least six and under seven. The upper bound matters as much as the lower - a child who is too old for a grade is not simply admitted into it.
The academic year runs April to March, and the school states that the admission process for the coming year opens in October or November of the year before and depends on seat availability. That is a clearer published window than most of its neighbours offer, and it means a family relocating in the spring is applying roughly six months ahead.
What to have ready
- Two photographs of the applicant
- Passport and Emirates ID copies for the child and both parents
- Vaccination and immunisation card with medical records
- Attested transfer certificate, required from Class 2 onward
- The previous year's report cards, from Class 2 onward
- For Classes 11 and 12, attested mark sheets with equivalency; Class 11 also requires Class 9 and Class 10 mark lists
The steps, in order
- 1.Submit the online form with documents attached; the system returns a temporary registration number by email automatically.
- 2.Wait for the school to schedule the entrance test and interview - it contacts you rather than the other way round.
- 3.Attend: kindergarten through Class 8, and Classes 9 and 11, all sit the entrance test plus an interactive session with the relevant supervisor.
- 4.Placement is by rank list drawn from that assessment, and the admissions team undertakes to contact parents within 48 hours of it.
- 5.Confirm the seat and complete the fee formalities on the ten-month billing cycle.
- 6.Give transport consent separately if you need a bus route.

What is taught, and which languages are on offer
Streams at Class 11 and 12
Science and Commerce at Classes 11 and 12, with the school stating that a pupil picks one stream and then chooses from the optional subjects available within it. There is no humanities stream. The larger structural point is the one above the streams: because the school runs the Kerala State Board alongside CBSE, a Class 10 cohort here can be sitting either the CBSE examination or the Kerala SSLC, and the results page reports the two separately. Establish which board a child would be entered for at the point of admission, because it determines the certificate, the syllabus and the transfer options afterwards.
Languages
Six published options - Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, Bengali and Arabic - which is the widest list verified anywhere in the Sharjah pilot. Arabic is compulsory under ministry rules; the rest are optional second languages. SPEA's reviewers observed lessons in several of them and commented on each: good listening and speaking in Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil, with writing underdeveloped in Bengali, and they identified Arabic as a second language as an area needing attention across the school. Computer Science and General Knowledge run from Class 1 to Class 12. What is not published is the grade at which each language opens, so confirm availability for your child's specific year group.
What it is known for
Dual examination boards - CBSE and the Kerala State Board taught in the same school, with separate results lists for each - and a campus split into two buildings running girls' and boys' sections on staggered timings. The 2025 review moved the school from Acceptable to Good.

Teaching jobs at NIMS Sharjah
Roles this kind of school hires for
- Class teachers for the kindergarten morning session, which finishes at 10:45
- Primary teachers, split across the girls' and boys' buildings on different timings
- Second-language teachers in Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu, Tamil and Bengali
- Teachers able to deliver the Kerala State Board syllabus alongside CBSE
- Arabic as a second language teachers, named in the review as a school-wide priority
- Special educators - the register runs to 236 pupils, roughly one in eleven
When hiring actually runs
The school states its admission cycle opens in October or November for an April start, and recruitment tracks a similar rhythm: January interviewing, a March peak as the new year opens, and an August round after the summer. Anyone qualified to teach Bengali or Tamil at secondary level should approach directly regardless of season, because those posts are rare enough that a school carrying them will take a name.
Before anyone interviews you, the paperwork is SPEA’s teacher licensing route, not the school’s.
Pay, plainly
There is no published salary scale for private-school teachers in the UAE, from SPEA or from anyone else, and this page will not invent one. The relevant published numbers here are different: SPEA recorded 146 teachers, 18 teaching assistants, a one-to-seventeen ratio and 14 per cent turnover, and separately described teaching resources as limited and the learning environment as cramped. Those are working conditions, and they are worth weighing alongside whatever package is offered.
We list no vacancies of our own for other schools - the link goes to the employer, so nothing here can go stale on a teacher.

NIMS Sharjah, honestly answered
Does this school really teach the Kerala State Board?
Yes, alongside CBSE. SPEA's inspection report lists both boards in the school's own information block, the admission page says the school follows the CBSE and Kerala Board curriculums, and the results page publishes separate topper lists for CBSE Class 10 and 12 and for the Kerala SSLC. Confirm at admission which board your child would be entered for, because it decides the certificate they leave with.
Can my child continue Tamil or Bengali here?
Those are both on the published list, which names Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, Bengali and Arabic. More usefully, SPEA's inspectors observed lessons and commented on them by language - good speaking in Tamil, underdeveloped writing in Bengali - so the subjects are running rather than merely listed. The school does not publish the grade at which each opens, so ask for your child's year group specifically.
Why do boys and girls have different school hours?
The campus runs as two buildings with separate sections, and the published timings differ: kindergarten 07:00 to 10:45, girls' section Classes 1 to 12 from 07:00 to 13:50, boys' section Classes 3 to 12 from 08:10 to 15:20. A family with a son and a daughter here is coordinating two school days that end ninety minutes apart.
Is there an entrance test?
Yes, and it is broad. The school states that pupils from kindergarten through Class 8, and at Classes 9 and 11, take an entrance test and have an interactive session with the relevant supervisor. Placement then follows a rank list, and the admissions team says it contacts parents within 48 hours of the assessment.
What was the inspection outcome?
Good, from a review conducted 27 to 30 January 2025, an improvement on the Acceptable awarded in 2023-24 - see how the Itqan scale works. The inspectors credited better achievement in mathematics and science, outstanding attendance, very good care, parent relationships and governance. They also recorded that the learning environment is cramped and teaching resources limited - the sort of thing to see for yourself on a visit.
When do applications open?
The school publishes the window, which many of its neighbours do not: the process for a new academic year begins in October or November of the previous year and depends on seat availability. Since the year itself starts in April, that puts the application roughly five to six months ahead of the first day.
How much does it cost per month?
Billing runs over ten months with nothing charged in July and August. SPEA's approved annual figures for 2025-26 are AED 4,155 in kindergarten up to AED 6,955 at Classes 11 and 12, tuition and books, which works out between roughly AED 416 and AED 696 a month. Uniform is AED 200 to 300 and transport adds AED 300 to 330 monthly.
How many children have special educational needs here?
SPEA recorded 236 pupils on the register out of 2,555, close to one in eleven, supported by 18 teaching assistants alongside 146 teachers. That is a substantially larger proportion than at several higher-fee schools in the emirate. If your child needs a formal plan, ask to meet the inclusion team and to see how support is timetabled rather than relying on the headline number.
