Separate fact from speculation before deciding. Press coverage through 2025-26 documents BYJU'S in insolvency proceedings with substantial operational disruption and reported layoffs. Its public ratings are notably low—Trustpilot shows roughly 1.3 out of 5 at the time of writing, which stands out for a company this large.

Public complaints cluster around three issues: refund requests after the roughly 15-day cancellation window, what some call aggressive sales tactics, and difficulty contacting support once you've enrolled. We're reporting what's publicly visible, not conducting our own investigation. We can't speak to any one family's experience—only to the pattern we see.

None of this means every family struggled, and if you're happy with BYJU'S, this isn't a reason to leave. It's context for families already considering other options.

Separate the company's financial health from what's happening in your child's classroom. A company under financial pressure can still have a good teacher; a stable company can still be a poor fit for your child. These are two different questions: Is the company sound, and Is this working for my child. Answer both before deciding—don't switch based on company problems without checking whether the class itself is a good fit.

This is a structural difference, not marketing. A recorded course is filmed once and sold to millions at almost no extra cost per family - that's why large libraries cost so little. A live class has a real teacher, in real time, with a fixed group of children every week. These are fundamentally different costs and should not be compared by price alone. A recorded video cannot see when your child rewatches the same part twice, or guesses on a practice question rather than solving it step by step. A live teacher notices both, as it happens. This matters most in maths, where a wrong method that gets the right answer by chance is invisible on video but obvious when watched live.

Recorded lessons do things we don't: infinite rewatches, zero scheduling friction, and a cost per child that drops as the platform scales. If your child actually needs to rewatch an algebra chapter at 11pm before a test, an app is genuinely the right tool - we are not. A trial class is only useful if you use it as a diagnostic tool, not a sales opportunity. Before the class, write down the one or two specific questions you need answered: Is my child a year behind in science or just one topic behind? Do they need a subject specialist or would one teacher across everything work? During the class, watch whether the teacher asks your child to solve a problem or if they just listen passively to an explanation.

After the class, you should be able to say something specific that you did not know before. If the trial ends with only a discount code and no clearer picture of your child's situation, it was a sales conversation disguised as a diagnostic - regardless of the provider. One final check, regardless of provider: ask directly whether the trial teacher is the same person who will teach your ongoing classes. A trial run by someone your child will never see again tells you very little about what the actual tutoring will feel like.

To be honest: any page that only ever points one way is not trustworthy.

• You want your child preparing for JEE or NEET. We do not teach Class 11 or 12 and offer no competitive-exam coaching. If this is your plan, you need a provider specifically built for it.
• You want unlimited video content you can watch anytime. We offer no recorded content and no app. All our classes are live, scheduled for a fixed time, with the same teacher every week.
• You want the lowest possible price. A small group of three costs more per child than content sold to many thousands. We are not the cheapest provider and do not claim to be.
• Your child learns best alone, at their own pace, with the ability to rewind. This is a legitimate learning style and it is what recorded platforms are designed for. A live class requires your child to keep pace with two other students.
• Your child is thriving and the switch is really about the provider's marketing, not your child's actual progress. If the teaching itself is working well, a disruptive mid-year transfer for a reason unrelated to your child's learning may create more problems than it solves.

Whatever provider you choose, treat the first month as a trial, not a commitment. In week one, expect the teacher to assess where your child actually stands rather than jumping straight into new material—if they begin with content on day one, they haven't truly diagnosed your child's needs. By week three, your child should be able to explain one thing they've newly learned in their own words. If they cannot, raise it directly rather than waiting longer.

Signs it is working: your child mentions class without prompting, homework requires less negotiating, and small errors on worksheets or a practice test start to vanish. Signs it is not: the same mistake repeats weekly, or your child cannot describe what was covered last time. Either warrants action before a term's fees are spent, wherever you have enrolled.

Practical steps that do not involve us.

1. Read your plan's cancellation terms - find the refund window and check if unused months are refunded pro-rata. The terms vary by plan and by when you signed.
2. Cancel in writing rather than by phone alone. A dated record protects you.
3. If a refund is disputed and you believe it is owed under your signed terms, contact BYJU'S support directly. If unresolved, your bank or a consumer forum is the next step - not something we can advise on.
4. Book a free trial elsewhere before you cancel. Your child should not be without tuition mid-term. Our trial requires no card and no commitment: get in touch to book one.
5. Check whether your child keeps access while you decide. Some plans cut access instantly when you request cancellation; others run until the end of your paid period. Knowing which applies prevents a gap where your child has neither provider for a week or two.

Do not rush. A quick switch made under pressure from a renewal deadline is how families end up disappointed twice.

One real class, free, with the class-appropriate teacher, and no card taken. The point is to find out what your child actually needs before either of you commits to anything.

You get a written note afterwards on what the teacher saw. Sometimes that note says the gap is smaller than it looked - a few sessions will close it.
