Marathi is a compulsory language subject in most Maharashtra schools, and a child who relocated from another state can excel in every other subject yet be held back by a compulsory scoring subject dragging down the entire report card.

The work begins with the script rather than conversation, because that is the actual gap—Devanagari characters, the vowel signs that change how a consonant sounds, then words, then sentences. If your child already reads Hindi, that skill transfers substantially: both languages use Devanagari, vocabulary and grammar differ but the decoding foundation is already there. For children who speak Marathi at home but perform poorly in writing, the gap is entirely different and requires dictation-led practice rather than conversation work.
