What this school actually is, and who governs it
If you have been searching for a Sharjah school that will let a child keep Tamil, this is the page that answers it. Across twenty-two CBSE schools in the emirate, this is the only one whose own curriculum page names Tamil, and it names Malayalam beside it. The published picture is layered: Arabic is compulsory, as it must be in any UAE private school, and the school notes it specifically for Classes 9 and 10; Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil sit as options in the primary and middle grades; French opens from Class 8; and Islamic Studies runs from Class 9 for Muslim pupils. That is a wider menu than any of its neighbours publishes, and it is the single strongest reason to look here first if language continuity is the thing driving your move.
The caution that goes with it is the same one that applies to every language claim in the Gulf, and it is not a criticism of this school. A listed language is an offer, not a guarantee. Whether Tamil actually runs in Class 5 next year depends on how many families opt in and whether the school can staff it, and the answer can differ between two sections in the same corridor. Ask three questions in writing before you accept a seat: is it taught in the specific grade we are joining, has it run in each of the last three years, and is it entered for the Class 10 board examination or taught as an in-house subject only. A school that answers all three cleanly is telling you the offer is real.
At the senior end this school is also the broadest in the batch. Classes 11 and 12 run Science split into Medical and Non-Medical routes, Commerce, and Humanities - and Humanities is genuinely scarce in Sharjah's CBSE market, where most schools stop at Science and Commerce. Two admissions rules follow from having a full senior phase: the school states it does not take direct admissions into Class 10 or Class 12, which is standard practice for board-examination years and catches out families mid-move. Plan a relocation for the end of Class 9 or the end of Class 11, not the middle of either.
The founding date needs one paragraph because three sources disagree and parents deserve the resolution rather than the argument. The school's own about page carries both 2006 and 2007 in different sentences. The Ryan Group's corporate timeline says its first Gulf school opened in 2009, describing Sharjah as that first step. SPEA's licence record - the document that actually permits the school to operate - gives 31 October 2006. We follow the regulator. The group itself began in Mumbai in 1976, and this campus in Muwailih was its entry into the Gulf; everything else the group publishes about school counts, student numbers and awards refers to India and should not be read as describing this building.
SPEA rates the school Good, with an evaluation recorded in 2025 and an earlier report from 2023 on the same licence record. The school's own distinctions are specific and checkable rather than vague: an Australian patent for a student-presence notification device for school buses, developed in-house, a third-place finish in the Educate the Heart Award in 2024, and a named Ryan Innovation Lab for STEM work. It publishes a student-teacher ratio of twenty-five to one and a school day from 7.30am, ending at 12.30pm for kindergarten and 3pm for Classes 1 to 12.
Finally, a search note that explains why this school is harder to find than it should be. Its registered name is Ryan International Private School, and typing "Ryan International" into any search box sends you to the group's Indian campuses instead. Parents and the school itself use RIS Sharjah. One directory indexes it as "Ryan Star International School", which appears to be an aggregator's error rather than a name the school uses. Quote affiliation 6630092 or SPEA school 153 and you will always land on the right institution.
Licensing, inspection and complaints sit with Sharjah Private Education Authority. The syllabus, the exams and the certificate come from CBSE, which is a different body answering different questions.
What it costs, and where that number comes from
We print the published schedule or we print nothing. No ranges, no averages, no “approximately” - a parent who budgets against an invented figure finds out at the counter.

Taken from SPEA's approved fee letter for school 153, which bundles books with tuition; uniform is separate at AED 200 up to Class 10 and AED 400 for Classes 11 and 12. Read the last two rows twice, because they are counter-intuitive: the approved amount for Classes 11 and 12 is AED 575 lower than for Classes 9 and 10, so the fee curve falls at the senior phase rather than rising. That is genuinely what the regulator's document says. SPEA's letter carries no academic year on its face and was generated in July 2024, placing it in the 2024-25 cycle; the school publishes its own fee PDFs which we could not read reliably. Confirm the current schedule, and ask about transport separately - bus charges are zoned and are not in the regulator's letter.

Fee increases are governed by SPEA, not by the school, and that is also where a fee dispute goes.
Getting a seat
Age and timing
The school does not publish an age table or a cut-off date on its admissions page, which is a real gap given how much else it publishes. As an Indian-curriculum school it falls under the 31 March cut-off rather than the 31 December date that applies from 2026-27 to schools starting in August or September, but you should get the specific ages confirmed by the office rather than assuming them.
Applications are taken through an online enquiry form that asks for the grade, the child's date of birth and the academic year, and the school confirms registration by email. Two hard rules apply regardless of timing: no direct admission into Class 10 and none into Class 12, both being board-examination years, and everything else is subject to seat availability and screening.
What to have ready
- The child's passport - first and last pages - together with the visa page
- Emirates ID with at least six months' validity remaining
- Immunisation records
- Birth certificate in English
- The original transfer certificate, required for every grade except KG 1
- Two passport-size photographs
- Copies of both parents' passports, visas and Emirates IDs
The steps, in order
- 1.Submit the online enquiry with the grade, date of birth and intended academic year.
- 2.Complete the student and parent details - identification, visa and address - on the same form.
- 3.Receive the registration confirmation by email.
- 4.Attend the school's screening for the grade applied to, which decides placement as well as the offer.
- 5.Settle the fee schedule and, if a bus seat is needed, confirm the transport zone, which is charged outside the approved fee letter.

What is taught, and which languages are on offer
Streams at Class 11 and 12
Classes 11 and 12 run Science - split into Medical and Non-Medical routes - plus Commerce and Humanities. That third option is the unusual one: Humanities is offered by very few CBSE schools in Sharjah, and a child set on psychology, history or political science at degree level has a short list of places in this emirate. Class 10 and Class 12 end in the CBSE board papers, and the school does not take direct admissions into either of those years.
Languages
This is the widest published language offer among Sharjah's CBSE schools. Arabic is compulsory, noted by the school for Classes 9 and 10 and taught across the grades. Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil are listed as options in the primary and middle years - Tamil appears on no other Sharjah CBSE school's own pages that we could find. French opens from Class 8, and Islamic Studies runs from Class 9 for Muslim pupils. Treat all of this as an offer to verify rather than a guarantee: whether a given language runs in a given year depends on opt-in numbers and staffing, so ask whether it is taught in your child's grade, whether it has run for three consecutive years, and whether it is entered at the Class 10 board.
What it is known for
Breadth at both ends - the widest language menu and the only Humanities stream in this batch - plus an Australian patent for an internet-of-things device that notifies parents of a child's presence on the school bus, third place in the 2024 Educate the Heart Award, and a named innovation lab for STEM work. The school publishes a twenty-five-to-one student-teacher ratio and a day running 7.30am to 3pm for Classes 1 to 12.

Teaching jobs at RIS Sharjah
Roles this kind of school hires for
- Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi teachers - a rarer requirement here than at most Sharjah schools, because the school actually offers all three
- French teacher for the Class 8 upwards programme
- Arabic teachers and an Islamic Studies teacher for the Class 9 and 10 requirement
- Humanities specialists - history, political science, psychology - for the senior stream few local schools run
- Science stream teachers covering both the Medical and Non-Medical routes at Classes 11 and 12
- STEM and robotics staff for the school's innovation lab
When hiring actually runs
The Indian-curriculum year sets the rhythm: January for the main drives, March at the peak as the session opens, and a thinner August window covering resignations over the break. This school's language posts are the ones most likely to be advertised late and filled slowly, simply because the pool of Tamil and Malayalam teachers with UAE licensing is small. Applications go through the group's own careers form for the Sharjah campus, which takes teaching and non-teaching applications with a CV upload rather than listing individual vacancies.
Before anyone interviews you, the paperwork is SPEA’s teacher licensing route, not the school’s.
Pay, plainly
Nothing published by any UAE regulator gives a salary figure for private-school teachers, so no figure appears here. SPEA licenses staff and inspects schools; it does not set or disclose pay, and CBSE's remit ends at the syllabus and the board examination. Before comparing an offer from a group school with one from an independent school, ask for basic salary, housing allowance, flights, medical cover and end-of-service gratuity as separate written lines, and ask who sponsors and pays for the SPEA appointment approval and the federal teaching licence.
We list no vacancies of our own for other schools - the link goes to the employer, so nothing here can go stale on a teacher.
What has changed on this page
Dated, sourced, and kept even when the change was us correcting ourselves.
Language offer recorded from the school's own curriculum page - Tamil and Malayalam alongside Hindi in the primary and middle grades, French from Class 8, Arabic compulsory - making this the only school in the Sharjah pilot to name Tamil in its own material.

RIS Sharjah, honestly answered
Can my child study Tamil at a CBSE school in Sharjah?
At this one, Tamil is named on the school's own curriculum page as an option in the primary and middle grades, alongside Malayalam and Hindi - and it is the only Sharjah CBSE school we found that names Tamil in its own material. Confirm before you accept a seat that it runs in your child's specific grade, that it has run for the last three years, and whether it is entered at the Class 10 board.
Does Ryan International Sharjah offer Humanities in Class 11?
Yes. Classes 11 and 12 run Science - divided into Medical and Non-Medical routes - plus Commerce and Humanities. Humanities is scarce among Sharjah's CBSE schools, so if a child is heading for history, psychology or political science, the shortlist in this emirate is short and this school is on it.
What are the fees at RIS Sharjah?
SPEA's approved letter gives AED 8,775 for kindergarten, rising through AED 9,900 in Classes 1 and 2 to AED 15,975 in Classes 9 and 10 - and then falling to AED 15,400 for Classes 11 and 12. Those figures cover tuition plus books; uniform is AED 200 up to Class 10 and AED 400 above it. Transport is zoned and charged separately.
When was the Sharjah campus founded - 2006, 2007 or 2009?
SPEA's licence record says 31 October 2006, and that is the date we use because it is the document that permits the school to operate. The school's own about page carries 2006 and 2007 in different sentences, and the Ryan Group's timeline says its first Gulf school opened in 2009. Where a school's marketing and its licence disagree, the licence wins.
Can we join in Class 10 or Class 12?
No. The school states that it does not take direct admission into Class 10 or Class 12. Both are board-examination years, and the restriction is normal across CBSE schools. If you are relocating, aim to move at the end of Class 9 or the end of Class 11; a mid-board-year transfer is the hardest admission in the system to arrange anywhere in the UAE.
What inspection rating does the school hold?
Good, with an evaluation recorded by SPEA in 2025 and an earlier report from 2023 on the same licence record. Good is the third of six bands on the Itqan scale and carries a two-to-three-year re-inspection cycle rather than the annual visit applied to schools in the Acceptable band - the SPEA page sets out the scale.
Is this the same as Ryan International in India?
It is a campus of the same group, which began in Mumbai in 1976, and this Sharjah school was the group's first in the Gulf. But the group's published numbers - school counts, student totals, award tallies - describe India and tell you nothing about this building. Judge this campus on its SPEA rating, its own results and its own staffing.
Why is this school hard to find by name?
Because its registered name is Ryan International Private School, and search autocomplete resolves "Ryan International" to the Indian campuses instead. The school and its parents use RIS Sharjah. One directory lists it as Ryan Star International School, which appears to be an indexing error. Quote affiliation 6630092 or SPEA school 153 in any enquiry.
