Our Own English High School - Girls, Sharjah
The older and larger of the two Our Own campuses in Sharjah: an all-girls CBSE school of roughly 5,700 in Industrial Area 6, rated Very Good by SPEA.
The regulator’s grade
Very Good · 2022-23
Awarded by SPEA under its own inspection framework. It grades the school, not your child’s year group.

What this school actually is, and who governs it
Start with the disambiguation, because it costs families real time. CBSE's affiliation register carries two Sharjah schools under the byte-identical name Our Own English High School, and tells them apart only by number: 6630015 and 6630063. This page is 6630015 - the girls' campus in Industrial Area 6, which SPEA files as school 177 and reaches at the mailbox [email protected], the -g- being the regulator's own way of solving the same problem. Its sibling, 6630063, is the boys' campus out at Juwaiza'a, and it has its own licence, its own principal, its own approved fee letter and its own page here. If you have been sent a fee table or an inspection grade for "Our Own Sharjah" with no branch attached, it is worth asking which of the two it described.
The school's own history page dates the founding to October 1982 - in Ajman, in temporary cabins - with a move into Sharjah in 1993 and the sale into GEMS Education in 2003. SPEA's register carries 01 October 1982 as the establishment date, so the 1982 claim is one of the rare school-history facts with a regulator's date stamp behind it. What grew out of it is unusually large. SPEA's 2022 Itqan review counted 5,677 pupils taught by 279 teachers and 30 teaching assistants, at a ratio of one to twenty, with 801 of those pupils on the special-educational-needs register. Every phase in that count is recorded as female - 855 in KG, 2,371 in Primary, 1,138 in Middle, 1,313 in High - which settles a question the school's own pages leave slightly open: this is a girls' school from the first year, not a mixed early years feeding a single-sex secondary.
The Itqan judgement was Very Good, awarded after a four-day visit on 7-10 November 2022, and it was a step up from the Good the school held in 2019. The reviewers singled out outstanding attainment in English, mathematics and science in the High phase, exemplary pupil behaviour, and the effect of the school's professional-development programme on teaching quality. The improvement they asked for was narrower than the praise: hold on to the gains, and tighten accountability for benchmark-test outcomes in Middle mathematics and science specifically. Note the date on that report. SPEA re-inspects schools rated Good or better every two to three years, so a 2022-23 grade is the current published one rather than a stale one - but it is four academic years old as you read it, and the roll it describes has almost certainly moved.
For a family choosing between the two campuses, the sharpest difference is not the rating - both are Very Good - but the subject map at Class 11 and 12. This campus publishes three streams: Science, Commerce and Humanities. The Humanities route pairs English Core with Political Science and then opens into History, Tourism, Sociology, Geospatial Technology, Psychology, Economics and Home Science, and the skill-subject list runs to Food Nutrition and Dietetics, Multimedia and Marketing. The boys' campus publishes Science and Commerce and no Humanities stream at all. A daughter who wants Political Science and Sociology at senior level has one Our Own campus available to her in Sharjah, not two, and that is a decision to make at Class 10 rather than discover at Class 11 registration.
On money, this page reproduces SPEA's own approved fee letter rather than a figure lifted from the school's brochure, because the regulator's letter is the document that binds. It runs from AED 8,350 in KG 1 to AED 16,115 in Class 12 for the 2025-26 year, tuition and books together, with uniform priced separately at AED 370 to 435. The school's own fees page publishes a 2026-27 schedule on a ten-instalment plan with a separate AED 500 admission fee, and the two documents will not agree line for line - SPEA's letter states an approved ceiling for the year it covers, the school's page states what it intends to bill next year across instalments. Read both, and treat the SPEA letter as the one to quote back if a bill surprises you.
The last thing worth knowing is where SPEA sits in the argument. Sharjah's regulator approves a fee increase only against the school's inspection rating, on a tiered scale, and a school that slips cannot raise fees at all. A Very Good school therefore has more headroom than an Acceptable one, which makes the Itqan grade a financial fact as much as an academic one. It also means the grade on this page is the thing to re-check before you sign for a second year, not the thing to read once at admission.
Licensing, inspection and complaints sit with Sharjah Private Education Authority. The syllabus, the exams and the certificate come from CBSE, which is a different body answering different questions.
What it costs, and where that number comes from
We print the published schedule or we print nothing. No ranges, no averages, no “approximately” - a parent who budgets against an invented figure finds out at the counter.
2025-26 tuition, by grade
Published schedule| Grade | Annual tuition (AED) |
|---|---|
| KG 1 | 8,350 |
| KG 2 | 8,380 |
| Class 1 | 10,535 |
| Class 2 | 10,565 |
| Class 3 | 10,560 |
| Class 4 | 10,590 |
| Class 5 | 10,700 |
| Class 6 | 12,515 |
| Class 7 | 12,510 |
| Class 8 | 12,560 |
| Class 9 | 12,465 |
| Class 10 | 16,170 |
| Class 11 | 16,125 |
| Class 12 | 16,115 |
These are SPEA's approved figures for 2025-26, covering tuition and books together, taken from the authority's own fee letter for school 177. Uniform is charged on top at AED 370 in the kindergarten years and AED 430 to 435 from Class 1 upward. Transport, the AED 500 admission fee and any board-examination charge sit outside this table entirely, and the school's own fees page publishes a later 2026-27 instalment plan that will not match line for line.

Fee increases are governed by SPEA, not by the school, and that is also where a fee dispute goes.
Getting a seat
Age and timing
Age brackets are published as date-of-birth windows running April to March, in line with the Indian-curriculum calendar. For 2026-27 the school lists Pre-KG for children born April 2022 to March 2023, KG 1 for April 2021 to March 2022, KG 2 for April 2020 to March 2021 and Class 1 for April 2019 to March 2020. Classes 2 to 9 are set as two-year brackets. A child outside the window for the grade you want is placed by date of birth, not by the grade the previous school had them in.
Registration opens in mid to late September for the following year. At the time of checking, the 2026-27 intake was open for every grade except 10 and 12, which the school does not advertise as open entry; for Classes 10 to 12 an MOE equivalency certificate is required before the application will proceed. Every offer is subject to SPEA approval, so an acceptance from the school is not the final step.
What to have ready
- Transfer certificate, attested - for overseas certificates, by the District Education Officer and then the consulate
- The child's passport with a UAE residence visa valid at least six months
- Emirates ID for the child
- Birth certificate in English
- Immunisation record
- Recent passport photographs
- For Classes 10 to 12, a Ministry of Education equivalency certificate
The steps, in order
- 1.Check the date-of-birth bracket for the grade you want before filling anything in - it, not the previous school's grade label, decides placement.
- 2.Register online during the September window, or ask about the waiting list if the grade is already closed.
- 3.Upload the document set and book the screening the school conducts on site.
- 4.Attend the screening with the child; for the younger grades this is a readiness conversation rather than a test.
- 5.Receive the offer and pay the AED 500 admission fee, which the school treats as non-refundable but adjustable against tuition.
- 6.Wait for SPEA to approve the enrolment before treating the seat as secured.

What is taught, and which languages are on offer
Streams at Class 11 and 12
Three streams at Class 11 and 12, which is one more than the boys' campus offers. Science builds on compulsory English Core, Physics and Chemistry, then branches through Mathematics, Home Science, Psychology, Informatics Practices, Biology, Computer Science, Economics and Artificial Intelligence. Commerce pairs English Core with Economics, then Accountancy or Cost Accounting and Business Studies or Business Administration. Humanities pairs English Core with Political Science and opens into History, Tourism, Sociology, Geospatial Technology, Psychology, Economics and Home Science. CBSE's skill subjects are taught alongside, including Food Nutrition and Dietetics, Multimedia and Marketing.
Languages
Arabic and Islamic Studies follow the Ministry of Education requirement and are not optional. The choice a family makes is the second language beside them, and the school's Middle School page names four: Hindi, Malayalam, Urdu and French. Malayalam and Urdu on that list matter, because they are the two that most Sharjah CBSE schools quietly drop for want of a viable cohort. The school does not publish the grade at which the choice first opens, nor whether every option runs in every year group, so ask for both in writing: which languages are actually timetabled in the grade you are joining, and which were examined at Class 10 in each of the last three years. Arabic becomes optional at Classes 11 and 12.
What it is known for
Scale and a Humanities stream. SPEA's 2022 review recorded 5,677 girls, 279 teachers and 801 pupils identified with special educational needs - a support caseload roughly fourteen times the boys' campus figure, on a roll less than twice the size. The reviewers rated attainment in English, mathematics and science in the High phase outstanding.

Teaching jobs at Our Own Girls Sharjah
Roles this kind of school hires for
- KG and Primary class teachers for an all-girls cohort
- Middle-phase subject teachers in mathematics and science, the two areas the Itqan report asked the school to strengthen
- Senior-secondary specialists across three streams, Humanities included - Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Geospatial Technology
- Second-language teachers in Hindi, Malayalam, Urdu and French
- Arabic and Islamic Studies teachers, taught to both native and non-native syllabuses
- Special-needs staff and learning-support assistants, of which this campus employs an unusually large number
When hiring actually runs
Because the year begins at the end of March, the recruiting calendar sits a full season ahead of the British-curriculum schools nearby. Drives run through January, peak in March as resignations for the following year land, and taper into an August top-up for mid-year gaps. GEMS recruits centrally, so a campus vacancy often appears on the group portal before it appears on the school's own page.
Before anyone interviews you, the paperwork is SPEA’s teacher licensing route, not the school’s.
Pay, plainly
No UAE regulator publishes private-school teacher pay - not SPEA, not the Ministry of Education, not CBSE - so any figure you see quoted for this school is somebody's recollection rather than a scale. Ask for the whole package in writing: basic, housing, flights, medical cover for dependants and end-of-service gratuity. At a school of this size the ratio that tells you most is not salary but the SPEA-recorded teacher turnover, 12 per cent at the last review.
We list no vacancies of our own for other schools - the link goes to the employer, so nothing here can go stale on a teacher.

Our Own Girls Sharjah, honestly answered
Is this the girls' campus or the boys' campus?
This page is the girls' campus, CBSE affiliation 6630015, SPEA school 177, in Industrial Area 6. The boys' campus is a separate school with its own licence: affiliation 6630063, SPEA school 167, at Juwaiza'a. They share a name in CBSE's register and nothing else administratively - different principals, different fee letters, different subject lists.
Do boys attend in the early years here?
No. SPEA's 2022 review counted the roll phase by phase and recorded every pupil as female, kindergarten included - 855 girls in KG, 2,371 in Primary, 1,138 in Middle and 1,313 in High. Some single-sex schools in the Gulf admit boys up to a certain grade; this one does not.
What did SPEA actually rate the school, and when?
Very Good, after an Itqan review conducted 7 to 10 November 2022, up from Good in 2019. SPEA publishes the full report as a PDF on its own site. Schools rated Good or better are re-inspected every two to three years, so treat that grade as current but ageing, and check the regulator's school page for a newer report before you enrol.
Can my daughter take Humanities at Class 11 here?
Yes, and this is the campus to apply to if she wants it. The girls' campus publishes Science, Commerce and Humanities; the boys' campus publishes Science and Commerce only. The Humanities route here starts from English Core and Political Science and opens into History, Tourism, Sociology, Geospatial Technology, Psychology, Economics and Home Science.
Which second languages are taught, and can Malayalam be continued?
The school's Middle School page names Hindi, Malayalam, Urdu and French as the options alongside compulsory Arabic. Malayalam appearing on that list is worth noting, because it is the option most often unavailable elsewhere in the emirate. The starting grade is not published, so confirm in writing that it is timetabled in the year group you are joining and that it has been examined at Class 10 recently.
Why does the fee table here differ from the school's own fees page?
Because they are different documents for different years. This table is SPEA's approved letter for 2025-26, tuition and books combined. The school publishes a 2026-27 schedule broken into ten instalments with a separate AED 500 admission fee. Neither is wrong; the regulator's letter is the one that caps what may be charged, and it is the one to quote if a bill does not look right.
How large is the special-needs cohort?
SPEA's review recorded 801 pupils on the special-educational-needs register out of 5,677 - a little over fourteen per cent. That is a large support operation by any measure and far larger than the boys' campus figure of 57. If your daughter needs a formal support plan, ask to meet the inclusion team rather than relying on the number alone.
When does the school year start?
At the end of March, not in September. SPEA excludes Indian and Pakistani curriculum schools from the standard Sharjah calendar, and the school's published 2026-27 year runs 30 March 2026 to 31 March 2027, with the summer break from early July and classes resuming at the end of August. A family relocating on a September assumption arrives five months into the syllabus.
