Overview

What this school actually is, and who governs it

Two things about this school are routinely misreported, and both come from the same cause: it shares a name and a founding year with a school it is not. CBSE's register lists it as Our Own English High School, affiliation 6630063, with no branch marker at all. SPEA is more careful and licenses it as Our Own English High School - B1, school 167, and files it under Juwaiza'a. The 1982 date attached to "Our Own Sharjah" everywhere online belongs to the girls' school in Industrial Area 6. This campus has its own establishment date on SPEA's register, 1 August 2007, and its own history: a purpose-built boys' campus at Muwaileh Commercial from September 2007, and a move to the current Al Menhaz site in Juwaiza'a in April 2019. When someone tells you the boys' school has been running since 1982, they are describing the lineage, not the licence.

The second misreport is the roll. Aggregators quote figures ranging from 3,300 to over 5,000, and the higher numbers are the girls' campus wearing the wrong label. SPEA counted this school during a four-day Itqan review on 21-24 November 2022 and recorded 3,287 pupils, every one of them male: 353 in kindergarten, 1,156 in Primary, 1,048 in Middle and 726 in High. Staffing at that point was 164 teachers and four teaching assistants, a one-to-twenty ratio, ten per cent turnover, and 57 pupils on the special-educational-needs register. That last figure is the one worth holding next to the sibling school's 801 - not because either is right or wrong, but because two campuses of one operator can run inclusion at very different scales, and the difference will not show up in a brochure.

The Itqan outcome was Very Good, up from Good at the 2019 inspection. What the reviewers praised is specific enough to be useful: attainment in external and international examinations, the innovation work running through clubs and cross-curricular activity, health-and-safety compliance, the leadership team, and the expertise on the board of governors. Their improvement list included one item that reads oddly for a school this size and is worth quoting at an open day - strengthen curricular choice for the Phase 3 cohort, including industry internships. The school publishes the full report on its own site alongside a dedicated section covering accreditation, academic performance and university destinations, which is a level of self-disclosure the girls' campus does not match.

At Class 11 the offer narrows relative to its sibling and sharpens in a different direction. There are two streams here, Science and Commerce, and no Humanities route at all. Science runs Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English and Mathematics with a sixth subject chosen from Computer Science, Informatics Practices, Data Science or Applied Mathematics. Commerce runs Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, English and Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, with Entrepreneurship as the optional sixth. Data Science and Entrepreneurship are on this campus's published lists and not on the girls'. So the two schools are not ranked versions of each other: one has the wider humanities offer, this one has the newer applied-subject options and the newer building.

Entry at senior level is more formal here than a family used to rolling admission expects. The school states that a Class 11 applicant must present Class 9 and Class 10 results plus pre-board marks and sit an admission test - not a screening conversation, a test. Registration opens in mid to late September for the following year; at the point of checking, 2026-27 was open for all grades except 10 and 12, with KG 2 through Class 11 limited to seats released by withdrawals. The published year runs as two semesters with an unusually precise hinge: 30 March to 9 October 2026, then 13 October 2026 to 31 March 2027.

On fees, the figures here are SPEA's, from the approved letter issued for licence B1, and they are not interchangeable with the girls' letter even though headline tuition on the two school websites is identical. SPEA approved AED 8,440 in KG 1 rising to AED 16,240 in Class 12 for 2025-26, tuition and books together; the girls' letter for the same year runs AED 8,350 to AED 16,115. The gap is small and the reason is mundane - different textbook and uniform allocations - but it demonstrates the principle that matters in Sharjah: the fee ceiling is set per licence, not per brand, and the tier a school may rise by at the next review is set by its Itqan grade. Very Good buys headroom. It is why the inspection grade and the fee letter belong on the same page.

Licensing, inspection and complaints sit with Sharjah Private Education Authority. The syllabus, the exams and the certificate come from CBSE, which is a different body answering different questions.

Note the dip at Class 9 - AED 12,360 against AED 12,665 at Class 8 - which is in the regulator's letter and not a typing slip here. The school's own site publishes a later 2026-27 instalment plan plus an AED 500 admission fee; ask which document a quoted figure came from.

Fee increases are governed by SPEA, not by the school, and that is also where a fee dispute goes.

Admissions

Getting a seat

Age and timing

Entry age is stated simply against the 31 March line that governs an April-start school: four by 31 March for KG 1, five for KG 2, six for Class 1. Because the year begins in late March, a boy who turns four in April is a full year away from KG 1 rather than a few weeks, and the school does not flex it.

Registration opens in mid to late September for the year beginning the following March. At checking, 2026-27 was open for every grade except 10 and 12; KG 2 through Class 11 were described as limited, meaning seats released by withdrawal rather than a fresh section. Grade 11 entrants must supply Class 9 and Class 10 results and pre-board marks, and sit an admission test.

What to have ready

  • Passport carrying a valid UAE residence visa
  • Emirates ID for the applicant and for the father
  • Birth certificate in English
  • The most recent report card, plus periodic-test results
  • Attested transfer certificate and final report card from the previous school
  • For Class 11 entry, Class 9 and Class 10 results together with pre-board marks

The steps, in order

  1. 1.Enrol online and choose the academic year and grade - the form issues an SR number by email, which is the reference for everything afterwards.
  2. 2.Complete the applicant profile and upload the documents against that SR number.
  3. 3.For Class 11, book and sit the admission test; for other grades, wait for the school to call the assessment.
  4. 4.Receive the offer, which names the grade and section.
  5. 5.Pay the admission fee within the stated deadline to hold the seat.
  6. 6.Clear the transfer paperwork with the previous school so the attested certificate arrives before the March start.

Academics

What is taught, and which languages are on offer

Streams at Class 11 and 12

Two streams, Science and Commerce. The Science combination is Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English and Mathematics with a sixth subject taken from Computer Science, Informatics Practices, Data Science or Applied Mathematics. Commerce is Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, English and either Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, with Entrepreneurship available as the sixth. Physical Education, Typography and Computer Application also appear on the published lists. There is no Humanities stream here; the girls' campus carries that route.

Languages

Arabic and Islamic Studies are ministry requirements and apply to every boy in the school. Beside them the site names four second-language options across Primary (I-V) and Middle (VI-VIII): Hindi, French, Malayalam and Urdu. The 2022 Itqan report notes that Arabic taught as a second language had improved to Good, which is the sort of judgement worth reading directly, since Arabic-as-an-additional-language is the weakest column in most Indian-curriculum inspection tables in the emirate. One widely repeated claim - that the second language is chosen from Class 3 - appears only on aggregator pages and not on the school's own, so it is left unstated here rather than repeated.

What it is known for

Applied options at senior level and a building to match. Data Science and Entrepreneurship sit on this campus's Class 11-12 lists and not the sibling's, and the Al Menhaz site opened in April 2019 with skill and creative-arts studios, tennis courts and a mini soccer field. The school also holds second position in the Distinguished School category of the Sharjah Award for Educational Excellence, 26th session, 2019-20.

For teachers

Teaching jobs at Our Own Boys Sharjah

Roles this kind of school hires for

  • Class teachers for an all-boys kindergarten and primary phase
  • Science and mathematics specialists for Classes 9 to 12
  • Teachers of the applied senior options - Data Science, Informatics Practices, Applied Mathematics, Entrepreneurship
  • Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics teachers for the Commerce stream
  • Arabic as an additional language, the strand the 2022 review tracked most closely
  • Second-language teachers in Hindi, French, Malayalam and Urdu

When hiring actually runs

The cycle runs against a late-March opening, so most shortlisting happens in January, the largest wave of posts appears in March when the outgoing year's notices are in, and a thinner August round fills gaps before the second semester. Vacancies for this campus are posted through the GEMS group portal under the boys' branch listing as well as on the school's own Work With Us page.

Before anyone interviews you, the paperwork is SPEA’s teacher licensing route, not the school’s.

Pay, plainly

There is no published pay scale for private-school teachers anywhere in the UAE; SPEA licenses staff and inspects schools but does not set or publish salaries, and CBSE has no role in employment at all. Treat any number quoted online as anecdote. The measurable thing SPEA does publish for this campus is the turnover rate - ten per cent at the 2022 review - which tells you more about working conditions than a headline figure would.

We list no vacancies of our own for other schools - the link goes to the employer, so nothing here can go stale on a teacher.

Questions parents ask

Our Own Boys Sharjah, honestly answered

Was this school founded in 1982?

Not this campus. 1982 is the founding year of the girls' school in Industrial Area 6, and the two share a name and an operator. SPEA's register gives this licence an establishment date of 1 August 2007, and the school's own history describes a purpose-built boys' campus at Muwaileh Commercial from September 2007 and the move to Juwaiza'a in April 2019.

How many boys actually attend?

SPEA's Itqan review counted 3,287 in November 2022 - 353 in kindergarten, 1,156 in Primary, 1,048 in Middle and 726 in High. Figures above 5,000 that circulate online belong to the girls' campus. The count is four years old, so treat it as the scale of the school rather than today's register.

Is there a Humanities stream at Class 11?

No. This campus publishes Science and Commerce only. What it does offer that the girls' campus does not is a set of applied sixth-subject options - Data Science and Applied Mathematics in Science, Entrepreneurship in Commerce. If a son wants Political Science or Sociology at senior level, neither is on this school's published list.

Is there an entrance test?

For Class 11 entry, yes, and the school says so plainly: Class 9 and Class 10 results, pre-board marks and an admission test. Other grades go through the school's assessment rather than a formal test, and for kindergarten it is a readiness check. Plan the Class 11 route a term earlier than you would for a rolling-admission school.

Why is the Class 9 fee lower than the Class 8 fee?

That step down - AED 12,360 at Class 9 against AED 12,665 at Class 8 - is in SPEA's approved letter itself, not an error introduced here. Approved fees are set grade by grade and include a book component that varies with the syllabus, so the ladder is not always monotonic. Ask the school for the split between tuition and books if the difference matters to your budgeting.

Are the fees the same as the girls' campus?

Close, but not identical, and the licences are separate. SPEA approved AED 8,440 to AED 16,240 here for 2025-26 and AED 8,350 to AED 16,115 at the girls' school. Headline tuition on the two websites matches; the approved totals differ because textbook and uniform allocations differ. Neither campus can raise fees without SPEA's approval, and how far it may rise depends on its own inspection grade.

Where does the school publish its inspection report?

Both on SPEA’s site and on its own, under a section covering the SPEA report, accreditation, academic performance and university destinations. That is unusual candour for a Sharjah school and makes the full four-day review readable rather than summarised. The headline is Very Good, awarded after a visit on 21 to 24 November 2022 and an improvement on Good in 2019.

When do the two semesters run?

The published 2026-27 year splits at October: first semester 30 March to 9 October 2026, second semester 13 October 2026 to 31 March 2027, with summer break from 6 July to 30 August and winter break 14 December to 3 January. The sibling campus publishes the same overall year as two terms rather than two semesters, which is why the two calendars look different at a glance.
