Bonafide certificate format generator

This bonafide certificate format generator drafts the standard wording schools use to confirm a student’s enrolment - for a passport, a bank account, a bus pass, a visa or a scholarship application - with the right fields and closing sentence for whichever purpose you pick.

It is a drafting aid only. Only the school itself can issue a bonafide certificate that a passport office, bank or embassy will actually accept.

Generate a bonafide certificate draft

This is a format aid, not a valid certificate.

Only the school itself - on its own letterhead, with its principal’s or authorised signatory’s signature and seal - can issue a bonafide certificate that a passport office, bank, transport authority, embassy or scholarship body will accept. This tool exists to give the school office a correctly worded draft to start from.

Why the purpose changes the wording

What a bonafide certificate is actually for

A bonafide certificate exists to answer one narrow question for someone outside the school: is this child genuinely a student here, right now, in this class? A passport office wants that confirmed for age and identity purposes. A bank wants it before opening a minor’s account. A transport authority wants it before issuing a concession bus pass. An embassy wants it as part of a visa application. A scholarship body wants it to confirm eligibility. The document is the same idea in every case - only the closing sentence, stating the purpose, actually changes.

Why the purpose field matters

A bonafide certificate issued for a passport application and one issued for a scholarship read almost identically until the final sentence, which is why this generator keeps every other field the same and only swaps that one line depending on the purpose selected. Getting that sentence right the first time saves a parent a second trip back to the school office to have it corrected.

What still has to happen at the school

Nothing here replaces the school’s own process. A genuine bonafide certificate has to be typed or printed on the school’s letterhead, checked against its own admission records, and signed and sealed by the principal or another authorised signatory - none of which a page on the internet can do. What this tool can do is remove the guesswork around wording and field order, so the school office is filling in a correct draft rather than starting from memory or an old sample.

Privacy, stated plainly

Every field here stays in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, nothing is logged, and the draft disappears once the tab is closed unless you have printed or copied it yourself, matching what our privacy policy promises across the site.

Before you rely on this draft

  • Only the issuing school can make a bonafide certificate valid - this is a draft, not the document itself.
  • Check the academic year field against what your own school actually uses.
  • A genuine certificate needs an authorised signature and the school seal - neither can come from this page.
  • Print the draft once it looks right, and hand it to the school office as a starting point.

About the bonafide certificate format generator

Is a certificate generated here valid for a passport or bank application?

No, not on its own. A bonafide certificate has to come from the school itself, on its own letterhead, signed by an authorised signatory and carrying the school seal - a passport office, bank or embassy is checking for exactly those things, not the wording alone. This tool only drafts the wording and fields correctly so the school has less retyping to do.

What does a bonafide certificate actually need to say?

At minimum, that a named student is genuinely enrolled at the school, in a stated class and academic year, and the purpose the certificate is being issued for. Most schools also include the student's admission number and date of birth, and always a signature and seal from the principal or another authorised signatory.

Does the wording change depending on the purpose?

Slightly. A certificate for a passport application, a bank account, a bus pass, a visa application or a scholarship each reads a little differently in the closing sentence, and this generator adjusts that sentence to match whichever purpose is selected, including a free-text option if none of the five common ones fit.

Why does the academic year field come pre-filled?

Because most Indian schools run an academic year from April to March, this field starts filled in with a sensible guess based on today's date - but it is a starting point, not a rule, since some boards and states use different cycles. Check it against what your own school actually uses before printing.

Can a school actually use this to issue the real certificate?

As a starting draft, yes. A school office can fill in the fields here, print it, and use it as a checklist while typing the final certificate onto the school's own letterhead. The printed draft from this page is not itself the valid document - the school's signed and sealed copy is.

Is anything I type here saved or sent anywhere?

No. The whole draft is built inside your own browser. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else, and nothing is stored between visits - the draft disappears once you close the tab unless you have printed or copied it yourself, exactly what our privacy policy promises across the site.
