Class 4 English test - common questions

What kind of reading comprehension does Class 4 expect?

Each passage contains eighty to one hundred fifty words, typically presenting a narrative or straightforward description. Questions following the passage are of mixed types: some are answered by information directly provided, whilst others require students to infer from textual hints. Real examinations include both categories, so the test reflects this variety rather than limiting itself to simpler direct-answer questions.

My child finds direct questions easy but inference questions hard - is that normal?

Absolutely, at this stage of development. Locating information directly stated on the page is an early-acquired ability; identifying what the text implies without explicitly saying it represents a later developmental achievement, more aligned with reasoning than simple reading. To cultivate this skill, ask 'how do you know that?' following each answer - whether the child cites explicit facts or makes inferences - until evidence-pointing becomes habitual.

Is this Class 4 English online test free?

Free in full, with no sign-up needed whatsoever. Email, account and login are all unnecessary. Your browser runs the test locally with no data retained - the score displays on-screen yet vanishes the moment you shut the tab, precisely as described in our privacy policy rather than taking our assurance.

Is there a timer?

This option is optional and begins disabled. An initial attempt should show what the child truly knows, rather than how swiftly they work under observation. On an unfamiliar test, a clock measures nervousness just as much as it measures grammar ability. With timing turned on, learners receive around forty-five seconds per question, which matches standard examination conditions.

Can my child take it more than once?

Retake is permitted as many times as needed. The question repository reshuffles both question order and answer choices with each attempt, blocking success through simple recollection of where answers sat previously. A session a week after the first attempt provides far superior information than repeating it the same night.

How is this different from your Class 4 English worksheets?

Worksheets target one topic in depth on paper, marked by you; tests score themselves. They meet separate needs: a test uncovers where gaps exist, a worksheet fills them. Most families see more progress from ten minutes of worksheet time than from spending an hour practising a skill that was never the underlying issue.
