The test follows NCERT's Santoor course for Class 3 English, the standard text CBSE schools use and which most state boards closely follow at this stage. ICSE students study identical grammar with marginally more sophisticated word choices, making the test relevant for them as well, though they may encounter a few unfamiliar terms.

Timing is optional and starts switched off. The first attempt should demonstrate what the child actually knows, rather than how quickly they work under observation. Pressure of time on an unfamiliar test reflects nervousness alongside English ability. An eight-year-old rarely gains meaningful benefit from being timed on an initial attempt.

Retakes are unlimited. Questions originate from a bank, with both the sequence of questions and the arrangement of answer choices randomised each attempt. This prevents passing on a second try just by remembering which position the answer occupied. Waiting a week before retrying provides substantially more understanding than taking it again on the same day.
