Class 3 English nouns and verbs test
This section has twenty questions focusing on nouns and verbs, the foundation upon which every subsequent grammar lesson builds. Students usually understand what nouns and verbs are, but the real challenge is recognising them within a full sentence where various words vie for attention. Every question explains how its method works. The last screen indicates which concept would benefit from further study.

Class 3 English test - common questions
Why does my child know what a verb is but still pick the wrong word in a sentence?
Defining a rule and implementing it within a sentence are separate competencies. A child may recite that 'a verb is a doing word' accurately, yet still be diverted by a more prominent noun appearing in the sentence. Working with complete sentences rather than isolated words is what bridges this understanding gap.
Are 'is', 'am' and 'are' verbs too?
Yes, though children frequently overlook them because they do not resemble a clear action. These are termed being verbs, and at Class 3 level it suffices for a child to grasp that 'She is happy' contains a verb—more technical terminology comes later.
Is this Class 3 English online test free?
Completely free and no sign-up needed. No email address, account or login required. The test runs within your browser with nothing saved to our servers - the score appears on screen and vanishes when you close the tab, which is what our privacy policy specifies rather than something we request you to trust.
Is there a timer?
Timing is optional and starts switched off. The first attempt should demonstrate what the child actually knows, rather than how quickly they work under observation. Pressure of time on an unfamiliar test reflects nervousness alongside English ability. An eight-year-old rarely gains meaningful benefit from being timed on an initial attempt.
Can my child take it more than once?
Retakes are unlimited. Questions originate from a bank, with both the sequence of questions and the arrangement of answer choices randomised each attempt. This prevents passing on a second try just by remembering which position the answer occupied. Waiting a week before retrying provides substantially more understanding than taking it again on the same day.
How is this different from your Class 3 English worksheets?
Paper worksheets target one topic deeply while requiring your marking; tests grade themselves. Each addresses distinct learning needs: tests reveal problem areas, worksheets remedy them. Ten-minute test sessions frequently help families more than hour-long practice on content previously understood.
