What a Class 1 parent is actually paying for
Class 1 is when your child stops being read to aloud and starts reading independently. Under the NEP 2020 framework, Class 1 and Class 2 make up the Foundational Stage, so good teaching at this age still looks more like play - sounds, songs, counters and picture talk - rather than long written exercises. The NCERT textbooks used in most schools reflect this: Mridang for English, Sarangi for Hindi, Joyful Mathematics for numbers. Progress in this year is uneven by design. Your child who seems behind in June will often read fluently by January.
What changes at Class 1
- Recognises all letters and the sounds they make, and blends simple three-sound words
- Writes short words such as fan, hen and rat without copying them
- Reads a small sentence of four or five simple words in an unfamiliar text
- Counts objects reliably up to 20 and recognises written numbers up to 99
What Class 1 parents tell us goes wrong
- Knows letter names but not letter sounds, so cannot sound out a new word
- Reverses b and d, or writes numbers mirrored - very common at six and usually temporary
- Reads the picture rather than the words and guesses the sentence
- Counts correctly but loses track when asked how many are left after taking some away

How much does Class 1 tuition cost per month?

Why does Class 1 cost less than other classes?
Fees are banded by stage rather than set per class, so Class 1 to 5 is one price. Class 1 to 5 is the lowest band because one teacher can genuinely cover the whole year's work, and the sessions are shorter because the attention span is.
Is there anything to pay before the first class?
No. The first class is free and there is no card involved, so there is nothing to cancel if it is not right. Payment starts only from the month you decide to continue.
