What a Class 2 parent is actually paying for
Class 2 is the quiet year that decides how the next three go. It is the last year of the Foundational Stage, and it carries the first target a parent can actually measure: by the end of Class 2 a child should read an unfamiliar text with meaning at around 45 to 60 words a minute. Numbers stretch to three digits and place value arrives. Nothing looks dramatic from the outside, which is exactly why gaps that open here are usually not noticed until Class 3 or Class 4.
What changes at Class 2
- Reads an unfamiliar age-appropriate text with meaning at roughly 45–60 words per minute
- Composes and writes short sentences of her own, with spaces between the words
- Reads and writes numerals up to 999
- Uses place value to compare two-digit numbers and say which is bigger
What Class 2 parents tell us goes wrong
- Reads accurately but so slowly that the meaning of the sentence is lost by the end of it
- Writes words joined together with no spaces, or drifts off the line
- Can say 'forty-two' but cannot explain that the 4 means four tens
- Gets subtraction with borrowing wrong every time in the same place
Fees for every other class
Every class costs the same, so these pages differ in what the year asks of a child, not in the price. Nothing is quoted on a call.
