This test follows Tamil Nadu Samacheer Kalvi, the curriculum used for Tamil instruction across all schools in the state. This includes CBSE and ICSE schools operating in Tamil Nadu, as Tamil is a mandatory subject for every child regardless of which board they follow. All Class 1 children in Tamil Nadu encounter the same letters and words arranged in the same sequence.

This is optional and disabled by default. A first attempt should show what a child can identify rather than how quickly they work under observation, since a timer on an unfamiliar test measures nerves just as much as reading skill. At this developmental stage, we would not recommend using the timer at all.

Students may retake as frequently as desired. Questions derive from a randomised pool where both the question order and answer positions change with each attempt, making memorisation impossible as a strategy. Letter recognition skill develops most effectively through repeated shorter sessions rather than attempting every question in a single sitting.

The worksheet materials involve tracing and writing with pencil, which represents how children of five or six years actually acquire Tamil letter formation. This screen-based test serves only to measure recognition, not writing production. The two approaches complement each other - pencil practice develops writing, while this test assesses which letters a child already knows reliably.
