Class 10 English tenses test

There are twenty-two questions examining all twelve tense forms. The purpose is not to reintroduce tense concepts, but to identify which forms Class 10 students confuse during examinations, particularly perfect and perfect continuous tenses. Each question highlights the temporal signal within the sentence that indicates the correct tense, and the final screen specifies which tense category requires further review.

Class 10 English test - common questions

Which tenses cause the most mistakes for Class 10 students?

The perfect and perfect continuous forms present the greatest difficulty, significantly more so than others. By this stage, students typically control simple and continuous tenses. Perfect forms, however, demand simultaneous awareness of two time points - when an event occurred in relation to another event or the present - which represents a more challenging concept warranting additional practice.

How can my child tell which tense a sentence needs?

Focus on identifying time markers rather than attempting to recall rules—words such as 'already', 'since', 'for', 'by the time', 'next year' and 'yesterday' consistently signal a specific tense whilst eliminating alternatives. Learning this compact set of signal words proves more effective for accuracy than reworking tense concepts once more.

Is this Class 10 English online test free?

Absolutely - it requires no sign-up of any kind. We do not ask for an email, an account or a login. The test operates entirely in your browser and stores nothing. Your score appears on the page while it is open, then vanishes once you close the tab. This behaviour is guaranteed by our privacy policy, not something you need to take on trust.

Is there a timer?

It is optional and starts in the off position. Your child's first attempt should demonstrate actual knowledge, not working speed under observation. Timed mode allocates approximately one minute per question, which matches the board examination's grammar section pace.

Can my child take it more than once?

Your child can retake it as often as wished. The test draws from a question bank with both the question order and the answer position shuffled each attempt, so success on a second try requires genuine knowledge not position memory.

How is this different from your Class 10 English worksheets?

Paper worksheets concentrate on one grammar topic and require your assessment; our tests self-assess and combine topics as the board paper does. A test locates where understanding breaks down, whilst a worksheet remedies it.
