Why is electricity considered such a numerical-heavy chapter?
Nearly all physics concepts - Ohm's law, series and parallel circuit combinations, heating effects and power calculations - ultimately depend on formulas that require accurate rearrangement and proper unit management. One error in rearranging V = IR spreads throughout a multi-step problem. Success requires practising each formula in every possible rearranged form, extending well beyond just the version presented in the textbook. This comprehensive practice eliminates this category of lost marks.
What is the easiest way to remember series versus parallel behaviour?
Series and parallel circuits display opposite electrical behaviour. In series, current flows uniformly throughout while voltage divides among resistors, and total resistance increases as components are added. In parallel, voltage remains constant across each branch whilst current divides, and the total resistance becomes smaller than the smallest individual resistor. Understanding this fundamental contrast between the two configurations is the key principle to retain.
