PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya AFS Yelahanka, Bengaluru
An air force campus out towards the airport with an unusual senior offer: Science and Arts, and no Commerce stream at all.
No published inspection grade
KVS has not published a grade we can link to for this school, so none is printed here. Ask the school which inspection year its last report covers.

What this school actually is, and who governs it
The thing to check before you fall for the setting is the stream list. This school offers Science and Arts at Classes 11 and 12, and no Commerce. Its own genesis page says so and its section table confirms it: three Science sections and one Arts section at Class 11, three Science and one Arts at Class 12, with nothing in between. Among the Bengaluru Kendriya Vidyalayas covered here that combination is unique. Every other campus that offers only two streams offers Science and Commerce. A child who wants Accountancy and Business Studies will have to look at KV MEG Centre, KV ASC Centre or one of the Jalahalli schools instead, and a child who wants Arts has one of the few places in the city system that runs it.
Geographically this is the outlying campus of the group. The school describes itself as sitting amid sylvan surroundings away from the hustle of the metro, on the national highway nearer to Bangalore International Airport, at Air Force Station Yelahanka, Bengaluru 560063. That is a real consideration rather than brochure language: a family living south or central will be committing to a long daily run, and the school publishes no transport information at all, so the commute is a question to settle before the application and not after.
It is a large school. The genesis page puts enrolment at 2,540 with 64 staff; the homepage counter gives 1,221 boys and 1,157 girls, totalling 2,378, with 54 teaching and 3 non-teaching. Either figure places it in the top handful in the city. The section table gives four parallel sections in each year from the primary classes to Class 10, with average enrolment per section running close to 50 across the middle school, which is at the upper end of what the sangathan sanctions. Class 5 was the fullest at 206 children across four sections.
Seat availability follows an interesting pattern here. Nothing is free anywhere from the primary years to Class 11 Arts, which is full at 18, and Class 11 Science, full at 110. The vacancies are all at Class 12: 31 places free in Science across three sections and 15 in Arts. Free seats at Class 12 usually mean pupils have left after their Class 10 results, and they are genuinely available to a family moving into the city mid-course, which is the hardest transfer to arrange anywhere.
The school's own account of what it does outside lessons is unusually specific, and specific is worth more than a long list. It names participation in the Mathematics Olympiad, the Green Olympiad, national-level essay and painting competitions, Youth Parliament, adventure activities, educational tours, exhibition tours and scouting, at both local level and the inter-Kendriya-Vidyalaya level the sangathan organises. It also claims awards without naming them, which is the part to discount. The grade span runs from Balvatika 1 through Class 12 according to the genesis page, so pre-primary provision exists here, although the section table read did not carry Balvatika rows and the number of pre-primary sections is therefore not published.
Licensing, inspection and complaints sit with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. The syllabus, the exams and the certificate come from CBSE, which is a different body answering different questions.
What it costs, and where that number comes from
We print the published schedule or we print nothing. No ranges, no averages, no “approximately” - a parent who budgets against an invented figure finds out at the counter.
2026-27 tuition, by grade
Published schedule| Grade | Annual tuition (INR) |
|---|---|
| Class 9 tuition, per month | 200 |
| Class 10 tuition, per month | 200 |
| Class 11 Commerce or Humanities tuition, per month | 300 |
| Class 11 Science tuition, per month | 400 |
| Class 12 Commerce or Humanities tuition, per month | 300 |
| Class 12 Science tuition, per month | 400 |
| Computer fund from Class 3, per month | 100 |
| Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi, per month | 500 |
| Admission fee, one time | 25 |
Nothing in the table is local. The sangathan publishes one schedule for the whole system and this campus applies it unchanged. It was read on 16 September 2026 from the sangathan's own fee page and has not been re-fetched since, because the host stopped responding; the figures are warranted as of that date only. Because this school offers Arts rather than Commerce at senior level, the practical reading for a Class 11 family here is simple: Arts is charged at the 300 rupee monthly tuition rate and Science at 400, with the 500 rupee development fund and 100 rupee computer fund on top of either. Tuition is waived entirely for girls in Classes 6 to 12, for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe pupils, for children of sangathan staff and for Right to Education admissions.

Fee increases are governed by KVS, not by the school, and that is also where a fee dispute goes.
Getting a seat
Age and timing
Class 1 admission needs six completed years as on 31 March of the year of admission and an age below eight, with a 1 April birthday counted in. Bands for Classes 2 to 10 are published on the same basis in the sangathan's guidelines and are applied without local discretion.
Class 1 and Balvatika registration opens online for a short advertised period each year, on the Bengaluru Regional Office schedule. Above that, the school's vacancy table is the only live document, and its current pattern is unusual: nothing free below Class 12, and then 31 Science places and 15 Arts places at Class 12.
What to have ready
- Proof of the child's date of birth
- Air force or other central government service and transfer certificate for the parent
- Transfer certificate from the previous school, needed for every class above Class 1
- Certificate supporting any reserved-category claim
- Disability certificate for a Child with Special Needs seat
- Address proof where the Right to Education quota is invoked
The steps, in order
- 1.Settle the commute first. This is the most distant campus in the group and the school publishes no transport arrangements.
- 2.Check that the stream you want exists here, since there is no Commerce at Classes 11 and 12.
- 3.Register online inside the advertised window for Class 1 or Balvatika.
- 4.For a mid-course move into Class 12, apply against the free seats the table shows rather than assuming none exist.
- 5.For Class 9, sit the sangathan's written test covering Hindi, English, Mathematics, Social Science and Science.
- 6.The categories, quotas and tie-breaks that decide the outcome are documented once, at /regulators/kvs.

What is taught, and which languages are on offer
Streams at Class 11 and 12
Science and Arts, with no Commerce. Three Science sections and one Arts section run at Class 11, and the same at Class 12. That makes this one of only two campuses in this Bengaluru group where a pupil can take an Arts route at senior level, the other being KV MEG Centre, and the only one where Commerce is simply not on offer. Confirm the optional subject combinations inside the single Arts section before committing to it.
Languages
The school does not publish a staffing table, so language provision cannot be checked post by post here as it can at the Jalahalli campuses. Hindi is taught as a matter of course across the system and the site runs a full Hindi version of itself. Which third language is offered at Class 6, and whether Sanskrit or Kannada is among the choices, is not stated on any page reached.
What it is known for
Being the Bengaluru Kendriya Vidyalaya that runs Arts but not Commerce at senior level, and a named co-curricular programme spanning the Mathematics Olympiad, the Green Olympiad, Youth Parliament and inter-Kendriya-Vidyalaya competition.

Teaching jobs at KV AFS Yelahanka
Roles this kind of school hires for
- Post Graduate Teachers in the sciences, which carry three sections at each of Classes 11 and 12
- Post Graduate Teachers in humanities subjects for the single Arts section at each senior level
- Trained Graduate Teachers across a four-section middle school
- Primary teachers for four sections a year
- Balvatika practitioners, since the school's grade span starts at Balvatika 1
- Scouting, sports and activity staff, given the breadth of the published co-curricular programme
When hiring actually runs
As at every Kendriya Vidyalaya there are two doors. The school appoints contractual and part-time teachers itself, and that hiring happens in the run-up to the session opening in April and in the first weeks after it. Regular posts are filled only through Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan's own national recruitment, held when the sangathan notifies it, with postings anywhere in India.
Before anyone interviews you, the paperwork is KVS’s teacher licensing route, not the school’s.
Pay, plainly
The regular scales are published and identical across the sangathan, on the 7th Central Pay Commission matrix: Primary Teacher Level 6 at 35,400 to 1,12,400 rupees, Trained Graduate Teacher Level 7 at 44,900 to 1,42,400, Post Graduate Teacher Level 8 at 47,600 to 1,51,100, Vice Principal Level 10 and Principal Level 12. This campus does not publish which of its sanctioned posts are vacant, so a candidate cannot tell from outside where the openings are. Contractual pay is set separately and is not published.
We list no vacancies of our own for other schools - the link goes to the employer, so nothing here can go stale on a teacher.

KV AFS Yelahanka, honestly answered
Is Commerce offered at Class 11?
No. This school runs Science and Arts only, three Science sections and one Arts section at each of Classes 11 and 12. It is the one campus in this Bengaluru group with no Commerce stream at all, so a pupil wanting Accountancy or Business Studies needs a different Kendriya Vidyalaya.
Can my child join Class 12 mid-course?
Unusually, yes. The section table showed 31 free places in Class 12 Science across three sections and 15 in Class 12 Arts. Free seats at that level normally follow pupils leaving after Class 10 results, and they make this one of the few realistic options in the city for a family relocating mid-course.
How far out is the campus?
It is at Air Force Station Yelahanka, which the school itself describes as on the national highway nearer the Bangalore international airport, away from the centre. Nothing on the site mentions school transport, so a family living south or central should settle the commute before applying.
How large are the classes?
Four sections in each year to Class 10, with the school's own averages sitting near 50 children a section through the middle school. Class 5 was the fullest at the last reading, with 206 pupils across four sections.
What does it cost?
The national Kendriya Vidyalaya schedule and nothing else: no tuition to Class 8, 200 rupees a month at Classes 9 and 10, 300 a month for Arts and 400 for Science at Classes 11 and 12, plus 500 rupees a month development fund and 100 rupees computer fund from Class 3. Admission costs 25 rupees. Girls from Class 6 and several other categories pay no tuition.
What do pupils do outside lessons?
The school names the Mathematics Olympiad, the Green Olympiad, national essay and painting competitions, Youth Parliament, adventure activities, educational and exhibition tours and scouting, both locally and at the inter-Kendriya-Vidyalaya level the sangathan runs.
Does it take pre-primary children?
The genesis page gives the grade span as Balvatika 1 to Class 12, so pre-primary provision exists. How many Balvatika sections run was not shown on the section table read, so confirm the number of places with the office.
Who has priority for a seat?
It is an air force station campus, so the sangathan's defence-sector priority applies: children of transferable central government employees including serving defence personnel and ex-servicemen come first, followed by the other categories in order. The full sequence is at /regulators/kvs.
