No published inspection grade
KVS has not published a grade we can link to for this school, so none is printed here. Ask the school which inspection year its last report covers.

What this school actually is, and who governs it
Location is this school's clearest advantage. It stands on Pallavan Salai, the road formerly called Body Guard Road, very close to Chennai Central railway station and near the Body Guard Muneeswarar temple, on 6.6 acres of army land that the school describes as thickly planted and laid out with gardens. For a central government family living anywhere on the suburban rail network, a campus within walking distance of Central is a different proposition from one fourteen kilometres out at Ashok Nagar or six kilometres from a bus stand in Tambaram. The postal code is 600002 and the office number is 044 29570350.
The second distinguishing fact is the Arts section. The school's table lists one Arts section at Class 12 alongside one Commerce section and two Science sections. None of the other Chennai Kendriya Vidyalayas examined here carries a Class 12 Arts group. That single section is small, and it deserves scrutiny rather than celebration, for the reason set out below, but it does exist and it is the only one in this Chennai set.
The reason for scrutiny is on the school's own staffing table, and it is stark. Every humanities Post Graduate Teacher post on the establishment is vacant: History, Geography, Economics and Commerce, one sanctioned post each, none filled. So is the single PGT Biology post. The Principal's post has been vacant since 1 August 2025 and the Headmaster post is empty too. Two Sanskrit Trained Graduate Teacher posts stand unfilled, three of four Mathematics TGT posts, and seven of twenty-four Primary Teacher posts. Kendriya Vidyalayas run contractual appointments against gaps like these, and a school does not keep a Class 12 Arts group going on nothing, but a family placing a child into Arts or Commerce here should ask, specifically and by subject, who is teaching it this session.
The rest of the shape is ordinary and solid. Four parallel sections run in each class from Class 2 to Class 10, with the school's table putting average enrolment at forty a section. The homepage counter reads 1,010 boys and 844 girls, about 1,854 children, with 46 teaching and 4 non-teaching staff. On the filled side of the staffing table, the Vice Principal is in post, Computer Science, Mathematics at PGT level, Work Education, Physical and Health Education, Art and primary Music all have their sanctioned posts occupied, and Hindi is over-established at three teachers against two posts.
A caution about the section table itself: the columns on the published page are misaligned, so the free-seat and enrolment figures cannot be read off it with confidence in the way they can at the Anna Nagar or Ashok Nagar campuses. The section counts and the stream structure are legible and are used here; the seat-by-seat numbers are not, and nothing has been inferred from them. As with the other campus, the two registers disagree on the head: CBSE names Jaswant Marwari and the sangathan's directory names S Krishnasamy, while the school's own table says the Principal post is vacant, which makes a telephone call the only sensible first step.
Licensing, inspection and complaints sit with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. The syllabus, the exams and the certificate come from CBSE, which is a different body answering different questions.
What it costs, and where that number comes from
We print the published schedule or we print nothing. No ranges, no averages, no “approximately” - a parent who budgets against an invented figure finds out at the counter.
2026-27 tuition, by grade
Published schedule| Grade | Annual tuition (INR) |
|---|---|
| Class 9 tuition, per month | 200 |
| Class 10 tuition, per month | 200 |
| Class 11 Commerce or Humanities tuition, per month | 300 |
| Class 11 Science tuition, per month | 400 |
| Class 12 Commerce or Humanities tuition, per month | 300 |
| Class 12 Science tuition, per month | 400 |
| Computer fund from Class 3, per month | 100 |
| Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi, per month | 500 |
| Admission fee, one time | 25 |
One schedule, set nationally, applied everywhere without local variation, which is why this block reads the same across every Kendriya Vidyalaya. It was taken from the sangathan's fee page on 16 September 2026; that host has not answered since, so the figures are anchored to that date and should be confirmed at the counter. The line that matters for this particular campus is the senior one: an Arts or Commerce pupil at Class 11 or 12 pays 300 rupees a month in tuition against 400 for Science, so choosing the stream this school uniquely offers is also, marginally, the cheaper route. Tuition is not charged at all to girls in Classes 6 to 12, to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe children, to children of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan employees, or to pupils admitted against the 25 per cent Right to Education quota.

Fee increases are governed by KVS, not by the school, and that is also where a fee dispute goes.
Getting a seat
Age and timing
Class 1 requires six completed years on 31 March of the admission year and an age under eight, and the guidelines treat a 1 April birthday as inside the window. Every class to Class 10 has a published band on the same footing, so a Class 7 applicant must be twelve to under fourteen. These are sangathan rules, identical at every campus.
Class 1 registration opens online for an advertised period set by the Chennai Regional Office. Above Class 1 the school's vacancy table is the governing document, but its columns are misprinted on the page as published, so a telephone call to the office is a more reliable way of finding out what is actually free here than reading the table.
What to have ready
- Birth certificate for the applicant
- Service certificate and transfer history for the central government parent
- Transfer certificate from the previous school, for any class above the first
- Community certificate supporting a Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe or OBC non-creamy-layer claim
- Disability certificate for a Child with Special Needs seat
- Address proof for a Right to Education claim
The steps, in order
- 1.If Arts at senior level is what you are after, this is the campus in this Chennai group that offers it, so start here.
- 2.Before accepting an Arts or Commerce place, ask by name who teaches History, Geography, Economics and Commerce, since all four Post Graduate Teacher posts are recorded as vacant.
- 3.Register online during the advertised window for Class 1.
- 4.Telephone the office about seats above Class 1 rather than relying on the published table, whose columns do not line up.
- 5.For Class 9, take the sangathan's written test in Hindi, English, Mathematics, Social Science and Science.
- 6.The priority order, quotas and RTE mechanics that govern all of this are at /regulators/kvs.

What is taught, and which languages are on offer
Streams at Class 11 and 12
All three at Class 12: two Science sections, one Commerce and one Arts. That Arts section makes this campus unique among the Chennai Kendriya Vidyalayas covered here. The qualification is the staffing: the sanctioned Post Graduate Teacher posts in History, Geography, Economics and Commerce are all recorded as vacant on the school's own table, so how the senior humanities subjects are being delivered is a question to put directly rather than an assumption to make.
Languages
Hindi is comfortably staffed, with three teachers in post against two sanctioned Trained Graduate Teacher posts. Sanskrit is sanctioned at two posts and both are empty. English runs two teachers against three sanctioned posts. A PGT Hindi post also appears, filled. Tamil is not mentioned anywhere on the site, which for a school this close to the centre of Chennai is a gap worth raising with the office.
What it is known for
A 6.6-acre campus on army land within walking distance of Chennai Central, and the only Class 12 Arts section among the Chennai Kendriya Vidyalayas in this set.

Teaching jobs at KV Island Grounds
Roles this kind of school hires for
- Principal, a post the school's table records as vacant since 1 August 2025
- Post Graduate Teachers in History, Geography, Economics and Commerce, all four sanctioned posts empty
- PGT Biology, the single sanctioned post unfilled
- TGT Mathematics, one in post against four sanctioned, and TGT Sanskrit with both posts vacant
- Headmaster for the primary section, recorded as vacant
- Primary Teachers, seventeen in post against twenty-four sanctioned
When hiring actually runs
With a vacant headship and an entire humanities department unfilled at senior level, this is a campus where the contractual route does a great deal of work, and that hiring happens locally around the start of the session. Regular posts are filled only by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan's central recruitment, notified nationally at intervals it decides, with successful candidates posted wherever the sangathan needs them.
Before anyone interviews you, the paperwork is KVS’s teacher licensing route, not the school’s.
Pay, plainly
Regular posts are on published 7th Central Pay Commission levels, which is the reassuring part of applying to a school with this many gaps: Primary Teacher Level 6 at 35,400 to 1,12,400 rupees, Trained Graduate Teacher Level 7 at 44,900 to 1,42,400, Post Graduate Teacher Level 8 at 47,600 to 1,51,100, Vice Principal Level 10, Principal Level 12 at 78,800 to 2,09,200. A candidate should establish plainly whether an offer here is against a sanctioned post on these levels or a contractual engagement, which is paid on separate terms that no Kendriya Vidyalaya publishes.
We list no vacancies of our own for other schools - the link goes to the employer, so nothing here can go stale on a teacher.

KV Island Grounds, honestly answered
Can my child take Arts at Class 12 here?
This is the one campus in this Chennai group that runs a Class 12 Arts section. Before accepting a place, ask who teaches it: the school's own staffing table records the sanctioned Post Graduate Teacher posts in History, Geography, Economics and Commerce as all vacant.
How close is it to Chennai Central?
Very. The school describes itself as located very close to Chennai Central railway station on Pallavan Salai, the road formerly known as Body Guard Road, near the Body Guard Muneeswarar temple. That makes it the most rail-accessible of the Chennai Kendriya Vidyalayas in this set.
How big is the campus?
The school gives it as 6.6 acres of army land, planted with trees and laid out with gardens. Four parallel sections run in each class from Class 2 to Class 10, with the table putting average enrolment at forty a section.
Is there a principal in post?
The school's own staffing table records the Principal post as vacant since 1 August 2025, with the Vice Principal in post. CBSE's register names Jaswant Marwari and the sangathan's directory names S Krishnasamy. Telephone 044 29570350 before writing to anybody by name.
How many seats are free?
The school publishes a vacancy table but its columns are misaligned on the page as it stands, so the numbers cannot be read reliably. The section counts are legible and are used here; for actual seat availability, ring the office rather than trusting the table.
What does it cost?
The national Kendriya Vidyalaya schedule: no tuition to Class 8, 200 rupees a month at Classes 9 and 10, 300 a month for Arts or Commerce at Classes 11 and 12 and 400 for Science, plus a 500 rupee monthly development fund and 100 rupee computer fund from Class 3. Admission is 25 rupees.
Which second languages are staffed?
Hindi is over-established here, three teachers against two sanctioned posts, and a Post Graduate Teacher in Hindi is also in post. Sanskrit has two sanctioned posts and neither is filled. Tamil is not mentioned on any page of the site.
Is this a good school to apply to as a teacher?
It has more open sanctioned posts than most: the headship, four humanities Post Graduate Teacher posts, Biology at PGT level, three of four Mathematics Trained Graduate Teacher posts, both Sanskrit posts and seven Primary Teacher posts. Regular appointments come through central recruitment on published pay levels; contractual work is arranged locally on unpublished terms.
