Overview

What this school actually is, and who governs it

This school states its own sector in the first line of its description, which is rarer than it should be: it calls itself a civil sector school, co-educational and secular, run by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan under the Ministry of Education, and places itself in the General Pool Residential Accommodation campus at Thirumangalam. Civil sector matters to an applicant because it is the broadest of the four categories. A defence campus effectively serves one station; a project campus serves one laboratory or factory; a civil campus serves the whole central government workforce in the locality, and in this case that means the households in and around the government housing at Anna Nagar West.

The address is the GPRA Campus on Jawaharlal Nehru Road, Anna Nagar West, Thirumangalam, Chennai 600040, with the office on 044 26158780. The school's own phrase is that it sits in the heart of the city, and for once that is close to accurate: Thirumangalam is well inside the built-up area with a metro station of the same name, which puts this campus among the easiest of the Chennai Kendriya Vidyalayas to reach without a car.

On size, the homepage counter reads 1,105 boys and 1,123 girls, so about 2,228 children, with 54 teaching and 4 non-teaching staff. The girls outnumber the boys here, which is unusual across this set of schools and is worth noting given that Kendriya Vidyalaya fee rules exempt girls from tuition from Class 6 upward. The section table gives four parallel sections in every class from Class 1 to Class 10 with average enrolment per section between 40 and 48, one Balvatika 3 section of forty, two Science sections and one Commerce section at Class 11, and the same at Class 12. Not a single free seat appeared anywhere on the table.

The school has a specific claim on this project beyond its own catchment: its mandatory disclosure page publishes the full Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan pay table, level by level, which is the source used for the salary statements on every Kendriya Vidyalaya record in this collection. That page carries a footer date of 30 October 2024 and sets out Post Graduate Teachers at Level 8, Trained Graduate Teachers at Level 7, Primary Teachers at Level 6, Principals and Assistant Commissioners at Level 12, Vice Principals at Level 10, Librarians, Finance Officers and Assistant Section Officers at Level 7, Stenographers and Senior Secretariat Assistants at Level 4, and Junior Secretariat Assistants at Level 2. Most private schools in Chennai publish nothing comparable.

What the school does put on its front page is worth a look because it is not the usual list. Recent items included pupils working with beekeepers, a visit built around the work of farmers, Class 10 and Class 12 topper announcements, a notice of visiting hours with the principal, a walk-in interview notice, the panel of contractual teachers for the 2026-27 session and a registration form for Class 11. That last item is the practically useful one: the school runs its own Class 11 registration for its existing Class 10 cohort, and publishes the form rather than handling it only at the counter.

Licensing, inspection and complaints sit with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. The syllabus, the exams and the certificate come from CBSE, which is a different body answering different questions.

Fees

What it costs, and where that number comes from

We print the published schedule or we print nothing. No ranges, no averages, no “approximately” - a parent who budgets against an invented figure finds out at the counter.

Chennai families used to the Tamil Nadu fee committee's three-year fixation cycles should understand that none of that applies here. A Kendriya Vidyalaya is not a private school under the state Act; its fees are set centrally by the sangathan for the whole country and neither the school nor the state has any part in fixing them. The figures above were read from the sangathan's fee page on 16 September 2026 and have not been re-fetched since, that host having stopped responding, so they are warranted as of that date. The exemptions are also central rather than state: girls in Classes 6 to 12 pay no tuition, nor do Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe children, children of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan employees, or children admitted against the 25 per cent Right to Education quota, whose exemption continues to Class 8.

Fee increases are governed by KVS, not by the school, and that is also where a fee dispute goes.

Admissions

Getting a seat

Age and timing

Six years complete as on 31 March of the admission year for Class 1, below eight, with 1 April birthdays inside the band. Classes 2 to 10 carry their own two-year bands on the same reference date. These are the sangathan's rules and they do not bend to Tamil Nadu practice, which is a common source of confusion for families moving from a state-board school.

Class 1 and Balvatika 3 registration runs online in an advertised window set by the Chennai Regional Office. For everything above that, the school's vacancy table governs, and at the reading taken it showed zero fresh seats in every class including both senior streams. The Class 11 registration form the school publishes is for its own Class 10 pupils moving up rather than for outside applicants.

What to have ready

  • Date of birth certificate for the child
  • Central government service certificate for the parent supporting the priority claim, with transfer details
  • Transfer certificate from the previous school for any class above Class 1
  • Community certificate where a Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe or OBC non-creamy-layer seat is claimed
  • Disability certificate for a Child with Special Needs seat
  • Address proof where the Right to Education quota is invoked

The steps, in order

  1. 1.Confirm that your household falls inside the civil-sector priority order, which is broader here than at the air force campuses at Tambaram or the ordnance factory campus at Avadi.
  2. 2.Register online during the advertised window for Class 1 or Balvatika 3.
  3. 3.Expect the vacancy table to show nothing above Class 1, and treat any mid-year enquiry as a request to be told about cancellations.
  4. 4.For Class 9, sit the sangathan's single three-hour written test across Hindi, English, Mathematics, Social Science and Science.
  5. 5.If your child is already in Class 10 here, use the Class 11 registration form the school publishes on its own site rather than waiting for a counter process.
  6. 6.The shared priority order, reservation percentages and RTE rules are set out once at /regulators/kvs.

Academics

What is taught, and which languages are on offer

Streams at Class 11 and 12

Science and Commerce. Two Science sections and one Commerce section run at Class 11, and the same at Class 12, with all four full at the last reading. There is no Arts or Humanities stream here; in Chennai that is available at the Island Grounds campus, which runs a Class 12 Arts section. Because both senior streams were full, a pupil coming from outside should not assume a Class 11 seat exists even if their Class 10 results are strong.

Languages

The school publishes no staffing table, so the language provision cannot be corroborated post by post. Hindi runs across the Kendriya Vidyalaya system and this site maintains a complete Hindi edition of every page. Whether Tamil is taught as a third language here, which is the question most Chennai families actually want answered, is not stated on any page reached and should be put directly to the office.

What it is known for

Publishing the full Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan pay table on its mandatory disclosure page, which is the only such disclosure found in this set, and a front page that records beekeeping and farm visits alongside the usual board-result announcements.

For teachers

Teaching jobs at KV Anna Nagar

Roles this kind of school hires for

  • Post Graduate Teachers in the science subjects for two sections at each senior level
  • A Commerce Post Graduate Teacher for the single senior section at each level
  • Trained Graduate Teachers across a four-section middle school
  • Primary teachers for four sections a year and a Balvatika practitioner for the pre-primary section
  • Contractual teachers, for whom the school publishes a session panel rather than handling appointments privately

When hiring actually runs

This campus is more transparent about local hiring than most: it published both a walk-in interview notice and the resulting panel of contractual teachers for the 2026-27 session on its own front page. That contractual round runs around the opening of the session. Regular appointments come only through the sangathan's central recruitment, announced nationally whenever it is held.

Before anyone interviews you, the paperwork is KVS’s teacher licensing route, not the school’s.

Pay, plainly

This is the school that publishes the numbers. Its own monthly remuneration disclosure, footer-dated 30 October 2024, gives the 7th Central Pay Commission levels: Post Graduate Teacher Level 8 at 47,600 to 1,51,100 rupees, Trained Graduate Teacher Level 7 at 44,900 to 1,42,400, Primary Teacher Level 6 at 35,400 to 1,12,400, Principal and Assistant Commissioner Level 12 at 78,800 to 2,09,200, Vice Principal Level 10 at 56,100 to 1,77,500, Librarian and Finance Officer Level 7, Senior Secretariat Assistant and Stenographer Grade II Level 4 at 25,500 to 81,100, and Junior Secretariat Assistant Level 2 at 19,900 to 63,200. Contractual appointments are outside this matrix and their terms are not published.

We list no vacancies of our own for other schools - the link goes to the employer, so nothing here can go stale on a teacher.

Questions parents ask

KV Anna Nagar, honestly answered

Is this a defence school?

No. It describes itself as a civil sector Kendriya Vidyalaya inside the General Pool Residential Accommodation campus at Thirumangalam. Civil sector is the broadest of the four categories, serving central government households across the locality rather than one station or one laboratory.

Are there free seats?

None showed anywhere on the school's own table at the reading taken, from Balvatika 3 through both senior streams. Realistic entry is at the Class 1 or Balvatika 3 online registration window; everything else depends on a cancellation.

What do the teachers earn?

This school publishes it. Post Graduate Teachers sit at Level 8, 47,600 to 1,51,100 rupees; Trained Graduate Teachers at Level 7, 44,900 to 1,42,400; Primary Teachers at Level 6, 35,400 to 1,12,400; Principals at Level 12; Vice Principals at Level 10. The disclosure page carries a footer date of 30 October 2024.

Does the Tamil Nadu fee committee set the fees?

No. The Tamil Nadu Schools (Regulation of Collection of Fee) Act applies to private schools in the state. A Kendriya Vidyalaya charges the sangathan's national schedule, which is set centrally for every campus in India and is not subject to the state committee's three-year fixation cycles.

Which streams are offered at Class 11?

Science and Commerce, with two Science sections and one Commerce section at each of Classes 11 and 12. There is no Arts stream here. Among the Chennai Kendriya Vidyalayas, Island Grounds is the campus that carries a Class 12 Arts section.

How big are the classes?

Four sections in every class from 1 to 10, with the school's own averages running between 40 and 48 children a section. Class 6 was the fullest at the reading taken, with 195 pupils across four sections.

Is Tamil taught?

Not stated anywhere on the school's site. Hindi runs as it does across the Kendriya Vidyalaya system, and the site keeps a full Hindi edition, but no page reached names the third-language options. For a Chennai family this is the single most important thing to ask the office directly.

How do teachers get appointed here?

Regular posts come through Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan's central recruitment, notified nationally. Contractual teaching is handled locally, and this school publishes both its walk-in interview notices and the resulting session panel on its own front page, which is more openness than most campuses offer.
