Overview

What this school actually is, and who governs it

If you have searched for this school under K K Nagar and also under Ashok Nagar and wondered whether they are two campuses, they are not. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan's directory files it as K K Nagar Ashok Nagar with KV code 1768; CBSE's affiliated-schools register lists it simply under its Dr Natesan Salai address with affiliation 1900019; the school itself writes Ashok Nagar. One school, three labels, which is a small thing until you are trying to work out whether you have already applied to it.

The school gives directions rather than adjectives, which makes it easy to place. It sits by the Ashoka Pillar, adjacent to the Police Training College on Dr Natesan Salai, and it puts itself at about fourteen kilometres from Chennai Central. The postal code is 600083 and the office runs on 044 29810112 and 0113. For a family comparing this against the Island Grounds campus, which is a short walk from Chennai Central, that fourteen-kilometre figure is the practical difference between the two.

It is a four-section school throughout. The table gives four parallel sections in every class from Class 1 to Class 10, one Balvatika 3 section holding 43 children, two Science sections and one Commerce section at Class 11, and the same again at Class 12. Average enrolment per section runs between 39.5 and 48.5. At the reading dated 16 August 2026, exactly two seats were free in the entire school, both in Class 4. That is as close to full as a Kendriya Vidyalaya table gets, and it is the honest headline for anyone thinking of applying outside the Class 1 intake.

The homepage counter reads 1,112 boys and 950 girls, about 2,062 in all, with 47 teaching and 5 non-teaching staff. The school's own description of itself is brief and does not claim much beyond being a centre for secondary and senior secondary education that produces pupils with a sense of national integration, which is standard Kendriya Vidyalaya language. What it notably does not publish anywhere reached is a founding year, so none is recorded in this record.

One administrative point a parent should check before writing. The sangathan's directory names the head as Sheeja Vinod and the school's own message block describes her as Incharge Principal, while CBSE's register names B Muthulakshmi. An acting head and a substantive head appearing in two registers at once is the likeliest reading, but it means the office should be telephoned rather than a letter addressed on the strength of either listing.

Licensing, inspection and complaints sit with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. The syllabus, the exams and the certificate come from CBSE, which is a different body answering different questions.

Fees

What it costs, and where that number comes from

We print the published schedule or we print nothing. No ranges, no averages, no “approximately” - a parent who budgets against an invented figure finds out at the counter.

2026-27 tuition, by grade

Published schedule
PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Ashok Nagar, Chennai annual tuition by grade, 2026-27, in INR

Class 11 Commerce or Humanities tuition, per month300
Class 11 Science tuition, per month400

Class 12 Science tuition, per month400

Admission fee, one time25

Every Kendriya Vidyalaya charges this one national schedule, so there is nothing here that is particular to Ashok Nagar and nothing the principal could change if asked. It was read on 16 September 2026 from the sangathan's fee-structure page and has not been re-read since, that host having stopped answering, so the figures carry that date rather than today's. The comparison a Chennai household usually wants is against a private matriculation or CBSE school in the same postal code, where annual fees in the tens of thousands are ordinary. Here the whole recurring cost at Class 7 is the 500 rupee monthly development fund plus the 100 rupee computer fund, with tuition starting only at Class 9. Girls in Classes 6 to 12, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe pupils, children of sangathan staff and Right to Education admissions pay no tuition at all.

Fee increases are governed by KVS, not by the school, and that is also where a fee dispute goes.

Admissions

Getting a seat

Age and timing

For Class 1 a child must have completed six years on 31 March of the admission year and be under eight, and a 1 April birthday counts as eligible. Classes 2 to 10 each have a published two-year band on the same date. Balvatika 3 sits below Class 1 and its age window is issued separately in the sangathan's Balvatika notices each cycle.

Registration for Balvatika 3 and Class 1 is online and opens for an advertised period fixed by the Chennai Regional Office. There is no equivalent window higher up: with two free seats in the whole school at the last reading, entry above Class 1 depends almost entirely on somebody leaving.

What to have ready

  • Birth certificate establishing eligibility under the relevant age band
  • Central government service and transfer certificate for the parent making the priority claim
  • Transfer certificate from the previous school for entry at Class 2 or above
  • Community certificate for a Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe or OBC non-creamy-layer claim
  • Disability certificate for a Child with Special Needs seat
  • Proof of residence for a Right to Education application

The steps, in order

  1. 1.Check whether you have already applied to this campus under its other name, K K Nagar, before submitting a second application.
  2. 2.Register online inside the advertised window if you are applying for Balvatika 3 or Class 1.
  3. 3.For any higher class, look at the vacancy table first and expect it to be empty, then ask the office to note your interest against cancellations.
  4. 4.For Class 9 entry, prepare for the sangathan's written test in five subjects taken as one three-hour paper.
  5. 5.Telephone the office rather than writing to a named principal, since two registers currently give two different names.
  6. 6.The priority categories, the reservation percentages and the Right to Education route are documented at /regulators/kvs.

Academics

What is taught, and which languages are on offer

Streams at Class 11 and 12

Science and Commerce, two sections and one section respectively at Class 11, and the same at Class 12. Both were full at the last reading, with 82 and 47 pupils at Class 11 and 86 and 42 at Class 12. No Arts stream runs here. The senior structure is identical to KV Anna Nagar's across the city, so a pupil choosing between the two is really choosing on commute and section fullness rather than on subject availability.

Languages

Hindi and Sanskrit both appear on the school's staffing table, Hindi with three teachers in post against two sanctioned and Sanskrit with two sanctioned posts and neither filled. English carries three sanctioned Trained Graduate Teacher posts with two in post. Sanskrit being sanctioned but unstaffed is the line to raise with the office if a child is choosing a second language at Class 6. Tamil provision is not mentioned anywhere on the site.

What it is known for

Its landmark position by the Ashoka Pillar next to the Police Training College, and being effectively full: two free seats across the entire school at the August 2026 reading.

For teachers

Teaching jobs at KV Ashok Nagar

Roles this kind of school hires for

  • Principal and Headmaster posts, both of which the staffing table records as vacant
  • Post Graduate Teachers in Biology, History, Geography, Commerce and Economics, each with a sanctioned post unfilled
  • TGT Sanskrit, with both sanctioned posts empty
  • TGT Mathematics, one in post against four sanctioned
  • Primary Teachers, seventeen in post against twenty-four sanctioned
  • Contractual appointments across most of the above while central recruitment catches up

When hiring actually runs

The local contractual round runs around the opening of the academic session and is advertised by the school itself. Central recruitment for the regular establishment is run by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan nationally, announced when the sangathan chooses, and candidates are liable for posting anywhere in the country rather than to this campus specifically.

Before anyone interviews you, the paperwork is KVS’s teacher licensing route, not the school’s.

Pay, plainly

The 7th Central Pay Commission levels apply and are published by Kendriya Vidyalayas as part of their disclosure duties: Primary Teacher Level 6 at 35,400 to 1,12,400 rupees, Trained Graduate Teacher Level 7 at 44,900 to 1,42,400, Post Graduate Teacher Level 8 at 47,600 to 1,51,100, Vice Principal Level 10 at 56,100 to 1,77,500, Principal Level 12 at 78,800 to 2,09,200. Given how many sanctioned posts this campus records as vacant, a candidate should establish at interview whether the offer is a regular post on these levels or a contractual engagement, which is paid on unpublished separate terms.

We list no vacancies of our own for other schools - the link goes to the employer, so nothing here can go stale on a teacher.

Questions parents ask

KV Ashok Nagar, honestly answered

Is KV K K Nagar the same school as KV Ashok Nagar?

Yes. The sangathan's directory files it as K K Nagar Ashok Nagar with KV code 1768, CBSE's register lists it by its Dr Natesan Salai address under affiliation 1900019, and the school calls itself Ashok Nagar. One campus, three labels across three registers.

Are there any seats available?

Two, both in Class 4, across the entire school at the 16 August 2026 reading. Everything else from Balvatika 3 to Class 12 showed zero. Entry realistically means the Class 1 or Balvatika 3 online registration window, or a cancellation.

Where exactly is the school?

On Dr Natesan Salai in Ashok Nagar, by the Ashoka Pillar and next to the Police Training College, PIN 600083. The school puts it about fourteen kilometres from Chennai Central, which is the main practical difference between it and the Island Grounds campus near the station.

Which streams run at Class 11?

Science and Commerce, with two Science sections and one Commerce section at both Class 11 and Class 12. There is no Arts stream. Both streams were full at the last reading, so a Class 11 place from outside should not be assumed.

Is Sanskrit taught?

Two Sanskrit posts are sanctioned and the school's own table shows neither filled. Hindi, by contrast, has three teachers in post against two sanctioned posts. If a second language choice is coming up at Class 6, ask specifically how Sanskrit is being staffed this session.

What will it cost each month?

Nothing in tuition to Class 8. The recurring cost is the 500 rupee monthly development fund, joined by a 100 rupee computer fund from Class 3. Tuition of 200 rupees a month starts at Class 9, and Classes 11 and 12 cost 300 a month for Commerce or 400 for Science. Admission is a one-time 25 rupees.

Who should I address a letter to?

Telephone first. CBSE's register names B Muthulakshmi and the sangathan's directory names Sheeja Vinod, whom the school's own site calls Incharge Principal. Both registers were read the same day, so neither name should be relied on without a call to 044 29810112.

How many teachers are missing?

A fair number, by the school's own table: the Principal and Headmaster posts, single Post Graduate Teacher posts in Biology, History, Geography, Commerce and Economics, both Sanskrit posts, three of four Mathematics Trained Graduate Teacher posts, and seven of twenty-four Primary Teacher posts.
