What this school actually is, and who governs it
Affiliation numbers are allocated in sequence and they leave a fossil record. This school holds 1900001, the lowest number CBSE has issued to any school in its Chennai district list, which places it at the front of the queue when the board began numbering affiliations in this region. That is a strong hint at seniority and nothing more than a hint, because the register does not print a date of establishment and the school's own site, where the founding year would be published, could not be loaded at all.
The campus is inside the Indian Institute of Technology at Chennai, which CBSE's register writes simply as IIT Campus Chennai and the sangathan's directory as Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIT Campus, Chennai 600036. In the sangathan's sector scheme an institution of that kind is an Institute of Higher Learning, and children of employees of Institutes of Higher Learning under the Government of India form a named category in the admission priority order. The nearest verified comparison is Kendriya Vidyalaya CLRI at Adyar, a few kilometres away, which states its Institute of Higher Learning sector openly on its own site and runs three sections a class with Science and Commerce at senior level. Whether KV IIT is shaped the same way is unknown.
The reason for that repeated unknown should be spelled out. On 16 September 2026 the school's website was attempted several times, over encrypted and plain HTTP, with intervals between attempts. On each occasion the domain resolved to a government s3waas host at 103.195.210.107 and the connection then failed to complete, timing out after thirty seconds. Nine of the twenty-five Kendriya Vidyalaya sites examined across Bengaluru and Chennai that day behaved the same way, all of them on the same address range, while the other sixteen served pages in under two seconds. This is an infrastructure failure affecting a block of government-hosted school sites, not a signal about any individual school.
CBSE records the school at senior secondary level, so Classes 11 and 12 run, although the streams are not named in either register. The sangathan's directory gives the KV code as 1775 and names the principal as R N Sendhil Kumar, and CBSE's register carries the same name, which is the minority case in this collection: at several other campuses the two registers name different people. Note also that a different R Senthil Kumar appears in the message blocks of the Chennai Kendriya Vidyalaya sites as the sangathan's Deputy Commissioner for the Chennai Region, which is a separate office and a separate person, and the similarity of the names is a genuine source of confusion.
CBSE names the school plainly as Kendriya Vidyalaya, without the PM SHRI prefix that most Chennai entries in the same register carry. That designation, which marks a school as an exemplar under the National Education Policy 2020, appears against Gill Nagar, Avadi, both Tambaram campuses, Adyar, Ashok Nagar, Island Grounds, Pazhavanthangal and Anna Nagar, but not against this one. It affects central funding and reporting rather than eligibility for a seat.
Licensing, inspection and complaints sit with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. The syllabus, the exams and the certificate come from CBSE, which is a different body answering different questions.
What it costs, and where that number comes from
We print the published schedule or we print nothing. No ranges, no averages, no “approximately” - a parent who budgets against an invented figure finds out at the counter.
2026-27 tuition, by grade
Published schedule| Grade | Annual tuition (INR) |
|---|---|
| Class 9 tuition, per month | 200 |
| Class 10 tuition, per month | 200 |
| Class 11 Commerce or Humanities tuition, per month | 300 |
| Class 11 Science tuition, per month | 400 |
| Class 12 Commerce or Humanities tuition, per month | 300 |
| Class 12 Science tuition, per month | 400 |
| Computer fund from Class 3, per month | 100 |
| Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi, per month | 500 |
| Admission fee, one time | 25 |
Sitting inside one of the country's best-known technology institutes changes nothing about what this school charges, because Kendriya Vidyalaya fees are fixed by the sangathan for the whole system and a campus has no discretion over them. The figures were read from the sangathan's fee-structure page on 16 September 2026 and have not been re-read since, that host having stopped responding to requests; they are accurate as of that date rather than as of today. The pattern is the same everywhere: 25 rupees to be admitted, no tuition at all from Class 1 to Class 8, tuition of 200 rupees a month from Class 9, and 300 or 400 a month at Classes 11 and 12 depending on stream, with a 500 rupee monthly development fund running throughout and a 100 rupee computer fund from Class 3. Tuition is waived for girls in Classes 6 to 12, for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe children, for children of sangathan employees and for Right to Education admissions.

Fee increases are governed by KVS, not by the school, and that is also where a fee dispute goes.
Getting a seat
Age and timing
For Class 1, six years completed as on 31 March of the year of admission and an age below eight, with a child born on 1 April counted as eligible. The sangathan publishes two-year bands for every class up to Class 10 on the same reference date, and a campus may not vary them however strong the local demand.
Class 1 registration opens online for an advertised period set by the Chennai Regional Office. Anything above Class 1 depends on this school's own vacancy table, which sits on a site that would not load, so availability at this campus is genuinely unknown and has to be asked for directly.
What to have ready
- Birth certificate placing the child inside the applicable age band
- Employment certificate for the parent, which at this campus will often be an Institute of Higher Learning appointment
- Record of the parent's transfers in the last seven years, which orders applicants inside a category
- Transfer certificate from the previous school for any class above the first
- Community certificate for a Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe or OBC non-creamy-layer seat
- Disability certificate for a Child with Special Needs claim, or address proof for a Right to Education application
The steps, in order
- 1.Work out where your household sits in the priority order, noting that Institute of Higher Learning employees are a named second-tier category.
- 2.Contact the school directly for seat information, since its vacancy table cannot be reached.
- 3.Confirm which streams run at Classes 11 and 12 before planning a senior route here.
- 4.Register online inside the advertised window for Class 1.
- 5.For Class 9, sit the sangathan's written test, one three-hour paper covering Hindi, English, Mathematics, Social Science and Science.
- 6.The shared priority order, reservation percentages and Right to Education mechanics are documented at /regulators/kvs.

What is taught, and which languages are on offer
Streams at Class 11 and 12
Senior secondary status is confirmed by CBSE's register, so Classes 11 and 12 operate here. The streams are not recorded in either register and could not be read from the school. Across the Chennai Kendriya Vidyalayas whose pages did load, the pattern is overwhelmingly Science and Commerce, with a single Arts section appearing only at Island Grounds, but that is context rather than evidence about this campus.
Languages
Not established beyond Hindi, which is universal in the Kendriya Vidyalaya system. The question a Chennai family most wants answered, whether Tamil is offered as a third language, was not answerable at any of the Chennai campuses in this set, including those whose sites loaded normally: none of them publishes its language options. It has to be asked at the office.
What it is known for
Holding affiliation 1900001, the lowest number in CBSE's Chennai district list, and standing inside the Indian Institute of Technology campus.
Second languages listed for this school

Teaching jobs at KV IIT Madras
Roles this kind of school hires for
- Post Graduate Teachers for the senior secondary classes the register confirms operate here
- Trained Graduate Teachers across the middle school
- Primary teachers, normally the largest single grade on a Kendriya Vidyalaya establishment
- Laboratory and library staff, the posts a campus inside a technology institute is most likely to sanction
- Contractual teachers appointed by the school against posts central recruitment has not filled
When hiring actually runs
The system runs two tracks and this campus will be no exception. Contractual and part-time appointments are arranged locally around the April start of the session and advertised on the school's own site, which cannot currently be reached. Regular appointments come only through Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan's national recruitment, notified when the sangathan decides to hold a drive, with postings assigned across the country.
Before anyone interviews you, the paperwork is KVS’s teacher licensing route, not the school’s.
Pay, plainly
Uniform and published across the sangathan, which is what makes a Kendriya Vidyalaya post comparable in a way private school offers rarely are: Primary Teacher at 7th Central Pay Commission Level 6, 35,400 to 1,12,400 rupees; Trained Graduate Teacher at Level 7, 44,900 to 1,42,400; Post Graduate Teacher at Level 8, 47,600 to 1,51,100; Vice Principal at Level 10, 56,100 to 1,77,500; Principal at Level 12, 78,800 to 2,09,200; Assistant Section Officer and Librarian at Level 7. Which posts are open here is not visible, because the vacancy page is part of the site that will not load.
We list no vacancies of our own for other schools - the link goes to the employer, so nothing here can go stale on a teacher.

KV IIT Madras, honestly answered
Do I have to work at IIT to get a seat?
Not as an absolute bar, but employees of Institutes of Higher Learning under the Government of India are a named category in the sangathan's priority order and will fill most of the places at a campus like this. Families outside that category and outside the central government transferable category come lower down. The order is set out at /regulators/kvs.
Why does this page have no section counts or roll?
The school's website did not respond on 16 September 2026, over repeated attempts on both HTTPS and HTTP. Section counts, roll, staffing and founding year are published only there. Nine of the twenty-five Kendriya Vidyalaya sites examined that day failed the same way, all on the same hosting address range.
Is this the oldest Kendriya Vidyalaya in Chennai?
Its affiliation number, 1900001, is the lowest in CBSE's Chennai district list, which suggests it was among the first affiliated. That is a hint at seniority rather than proof of it; the register prints no date of establishment and the school's own founding year could not be read.
Which streams run at Class 11?
Not stated by either register. CBSE confirms senior secondary status, so Classes 11 and 12 exist, but the subjects are unknown. Among the Chennai campuses whose pages loaded, Science and Commerce is the usual pairing, with Arts appearing only at Island Grounds.
Is Tamil taught?
Unknown here, and in fact unanswered at every Chennai Kendriya Vidyalaya in this set, including those whose sites worked: none of them publishes its third-language options. Hindi is taught system-wide. If the language matters to your decision, ask the office before applying.
What does it cost?
The sangathan's national schedule, which applies unchanged at every campus: no tuition to Class 8, 200 rupees a month at Classes 9 and 10, 300 or 400 a month at Classes 11 and 12 by stream, a 500 rupee monthly development fund throughout and a 100 rupee computer fund from Class 3, with a one-time admission fee of 25 rupees.
Who is the principal?
R N Sendhil Kumar, named identically in CBSE's register and the sangathan's directory. Do not confuse him with R Senthil Kumar, the Deputy Commissioner of the sangathan's Chennai Regional Office, whose message appears on several other Chennai Kendriya Vidyalaya websites.
Is it a PM SHRI school?
It does not appear so. CBSE names it plainly as Kendriya Vidyalaya, while it applies the PM SHRI prefix to nine of the other Chennai entries including Anna Nagar, Adyar, Gill Nagar, Island Grounds and both Tambaram campuses. The designation governs funding and reporting, not admission.
