Overview

What this school actually is, and who governs it

This school is worth looking at for one reason above all others, and it is a reason nobody advertises: it has space. Kendriya Vidyalayas in Bengaluru are almost universally full, with vacancy tables reading zero down every row. This one, at the reading of 6 April 2026, showed 40 free places in Balvatika 1 with nobody enrolled, 80 free in Class 1 against 43 enrolled, and 75 free in Class 11 Science against five enrolled. Three free seats in Class 3 and seven in Class 5 sat alongside. A family that has been refused everywhere else, and qualifies under the sangathan's priority order, has a genuine chance here.

The five-enrolled, seventy-five-free line at Class 11 Science deserves reading twice. It means two sanctioned sections with almost nobody in them, which is either a cohort that has not yet been admitted at the time of the table's update or a senior school that is genuinely struggling to recruit. Class 12 Science, by contrast, held 40 across two sections. Before treating those 75 places as an opportunity, ask the school directly how many pupils are actually sitting in Class 11 this session and which optional subjects are running, because a stream that thin can quietly stop offering choices.

The school describes itself as founded in 1994, adjacent to the Railway Workshop at Yelahanka, and positioned as a convenient option for employees of Indian Railways and other central government departments. CBSE's register carries it as Rail Wheel Factory Yelahanka under affiliation 800018 and the sangathan's own directory files it as W and AP Yelahanka, so the same school appears under three names across three registers, which is worth knowing if you are searching for it. The address is RWF West Colony, Yelahanka New Town, Bengaluru 560064.

On scale it is mid-sized. The homepage counter reads 780 boys and 750 girls, about 1,530 in all, with 36 teaching and 7 non-teaching staff. Three parallel sections run in every class from Class 1 to Class 10 and two sections at each of Classes 11 and 12, all Science. Average enrolment per section runs around 40 in the primary years and rises to 57 in Class 9, the school's heaviest year group. There is no Commerce and no Arts here, so it is the narrowest senior offer in the Bengaluru group alongside KV DRDO.

One caution about the site itself. Its genesis page reads as generic institutional prose rather than as a record of this particular school, moving through headings on infrastructure, academic excellence, extracurricular activities and parental involvement without naming a date, a building, a result or a person beyond the 1994 founding. Nothing in it is contradicted elsewhere, but very little of it is checkable either, so the concrete facts used in this record come from the counter, the section table and the contact page rather than from that narrative. The contact page also misprints the school's own web address, giving a kvs.gov.in domain where the site actually lives on kvs.ac.in.

Licensing, inspection and complaints sit with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. The syllabus, the exams and the certificate come from CBSE, which is a different body answering different questions.

Fees

What it costs, and where that number comes from

We print the published schedule or we print nothing. No ranges, no averages, no “approximately” - a parent who budgets against an invented figure finds out at the counter.

2026-27 tuition, by grade

The sangathan sets one schedule nationally and no campus deviates from it, so these figures apply here exactly as they apply in Chennai or Delhi. They were read from the sangathan's fee page on 16 September 2026 and have not been re-fetched since, that host having ceased to respond, so the date is what the figures are pinned to. For a household comparing this school against a private CBSE school in Yelahanka New Town, the honest arithmetic is that a Kendriya Vidyalaya place costs 500 rupees a month in the primary years, 600 once the computer fund starts at Class 3, 800 at Classes 9 and 10, and 1,000 a month in Class 11 or 12 Science, which is the only senior stream offered here. Tuition is waived for girls in Classes 6 to 12, for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe children, for children of KVS employees and for Right to Education admissions.

Fee increases are governed by KVS, not by the school, and that is also where a fee dispute goes.

Admissions

Getting a seat

Age and timing

Six completed years on 31 March of the admission year and under eight for Class 1, counting 1 April birthdays as inside. Each class up to Class 10 carries its own published two-year band on the same date. Balvatika has separate age rules issued with the sangathan's Balvatika notices each cycle.

Class 1 and Balvatika registration is online and time-boxed, announced by advertisement on the Bengaluru Regional Office schedule. Unlike most campuses in this city, the window is not the whole story here: the vacancy table has been carrying substantial free seats at Class 1 and Class 11 well after the session opened, so a late enquiry is worth making.

What to have ready

  • Age proof for the child, needed for Balvatika 1 as well as for Class 1
  • Railway or other central government service certificate for the parent, with the transfer record
  • Transfer certificate from the school last attended, for any class above Class 1
  • Reserved-category certificate, including OBC non-creamy-layer, where such a seat is claimed
  • Disability certificate for a Child with Special Needs application
  • Residence proof for a Right to Education claim

The steps, in order

  1. 1.Check the vacancy table before anything else; this is the one campus in the group where it regularly shows large numbers of free seats.
  2. 2.For Class 11 Science, ask how many pupils are actually enrolled this session and which optional subjects are running before accepting a place.
  3. 3.Register online for Balvatika 1 or Class 1 inside the advertised window.
  4. 4.Bring the service record with transfer history, since the number of parental transfers in the past seven years is the tie-break inside a category.
  5. 5.For Class 9, sit the sangathan's written admission test.
  6. 6.The priority order, the reservation percentages and the Right to Education mechanics live at /regulators/kvs.

Academics

What is taught, and which languages are on offer

Streams at Class 11 and 12

Science alone. The section table lists two Science sections at Class 11 and two at Class 12 and no Commerce or Arts rows at all, which makes this the narrowest senior offer among the Bengaluru Kendriya Vidyalayas here alongside KV DRDO. A pupil wanting Commerce must look at the MG Railway Colony, ASC Centre, MEG Centre or Jalahalli campuses; a pupil wanting Arts must look at MEG Centre or AFS Yelahanka.

Languages

Not published. This campus posts no staffing table and its genesis page names no language provision, so nothing can be stated here about which second or third language runs at Class 6. Hindi is taught throughout the Kendriya Vidyalaya system and the site maintains a Hindi edition of every page, but that is inference rather than a published fact about this school, and the office should be asked.

What it is known for

Being the railway workshop Kendriya Vidyalaya at Yelahanka New Town, and the one campus in this Bengaluru set that consistently publishes large numbers of unfilled seats.

For teachers

Teaching jobs at KV RWF Yelahanka

Roles this kind of school hires for

  • Post Graduate Teachers in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology for the two Science sections at each senior level
  • Trained Graduate Teachers across a three-section middle school
  • Primary teachers for three sections a year from Class 1 to Class 5
  • A Balvatika practitioner, since the school runs a pre-primary section
  • Non-teaching and support staff, which at seven people is a larger share of the establishment here than at most sister campuses

When hiring actually runs

Local contractual hiring runs in the weeks either side of the session opening in April and is advertised by the school itself. Regular teaching appointments come only through Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan's central recruitment, notified nationally and not on an annual cycle, with successful candidates liable to be posted anywhere in the country.

Before anyone interviews you, the paperwork is KVS’s teacher licensing route, not the school’s.

Pay, plainly

All regular Kendriya Vidyalaya posts sit on the 7th Central Pay Commission matrix and the levels are published: Primary Teacher at Level 6, 35,400 to 1,12,400 rupees; Trained Graduate Teacher at Level 7, 44,900 to 1,42,400; Post Graduate Teacher at Level 8, 47,600 to 1,51,100; Vice Principal at Level 10, 56,100 to 1,77,500; Principal at Level 12, 78,800 to 2,09,200; Junior Secretariat Assistant at Level 2. This campus publishes no vacancy table, so which posts are open here is not visible from outside. Contractual terms are not published anywhere.

We list no vacancies of our own for other schools - the link goes to the employer, so nothing here can go stale on a teacher.

Questions parents ask

KV RWF Yelahanka, honestly answered

Are there really free seats here?

At the April 2026 reading, yes, and a lot of them: 40 places in Balvatika 1, 80 in Class 1, 75 in Class 11 Science, seven in Class 5 and three in Class 3. That is the opposite of every other Kendriya Vidyalaya in the city, where the tables read zero all the way down.

Why does Class 11 Science have only five pupils?

That is what the school's own table showed against two sanctioned sections at the April 2026 update. It may be a cohort not yet admitted at that point, or a senior school that is genuinely under-recruited. Either way, ask directly how many pupils are enrolled this session and which optional subjects are actually running.

Which streams are offered at Class 11?

Science only. There is no Commerce and no Arts section at either Class 11 or Class 12. For Commerce you would need the MG Railway Colony, ASC Centre, MEG Centre or a Jalahalli campus; for Arts, MEG Centre or AFS Yelahanka.

Why does the school appear under three different names?

Because three registers disagree. The school writes itself as KV RWF Yelahanka, CBSE's register lists it as Rail Wheel Factory Yelahanka under affiliation 800018, and the sangathan's directory files it as W and AP Yelahanka with KV code 1056. All three are the same school at RWF West Colony, Yelahanka New Town.

What are the fees?

The national Kendriya Vidyalaya schedule, unchanged: no tuition to Class 8, 200 rupees a month at Classes 9 and 10, 400 a month for Class 11 or 12 Science, plus a 500 rupee monthly development fund and a 100 rupee computer fund from Class 3. Admission is 25 rupees. Girls from Class 6 and several other categories are exempt from tuition.

How many children are in each class?

Three sections in each year from Class 1 to Class 10. Averages run around 40 a section in the primary years and peak at 57 in Class 9, which is the fullest year group. Class 1 was well below capacity at the last reading, with 43 children across three sections.

Does it take pre-primary children?

Yes, one Balvatika 1 section, which was showing 40 free places and nobody enrolled at the April 2026 update. Balvatika age rules are issued separately by the sangathan each cycle, so confirm the date-of-birth window with the office.

Can I trust what the school's own history page says?

Treat it carefully. Beyond the 1994 founding and the location beside the Railway Workshop, the page is written in general institutional language and names no dates, buildings, results or people, so almost none of it can be checked. The figures used here come from the school's counter, its section table and its contact page instead.
