The Tambaram air force station carries two Kendriya Vidyalayas and their records get tangled with remarkable regularity. This is No. 1, holding CBSE affiliation 1900005 with school code 59014 and KV code 1778. The other is No. 2, affiliation 1900017, school code 59009, KV code 1779. The harvesting process that assembled this collection initially matched both schools to the same affiliation number because their names and addresses overlap so heavily, and CBSE's own register compounds the problem by naming the same person, S Arumugam, as the head of both. Before submitting any form, check the affiliation number, not the name.
The sangathan's directory gives this school the fuller address: Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, AFS, Tambaram, Madambakkam Camp, Tambaram East, Selaiyur Post, near Camp Road Junction, Chennai. CBSE's register writes it more briefly as AFS Tambaram Selaiyur. The Camp Road Junction reference is the useful one for anyone trying to find it, since Selaiyur is a large area and the two Kendriya Vidyalayas sit within a short distance of one another.
Being an air force station campus places this school in the defence sector, where the sangathan's priority order puts children of transferable central government employees including serving defence personnel and ex-servicemen at the head of the queue. That is an inference from the sponsor rather than a statement by the school, since the site could not be reached, but it is a safe one: the No. 2 campus at the same station is plainly a station school and the two share a sponsor.
The reason for that inference rather than a quotation is the same outage that affects eight other records in this collection. On 16 September 2026 the school's website was tried more than once, over encrypted and plain HTTP, with pauses between attempts. The domain resolved each time to a government s3waas host at 103.195.210.102 and the connection then stalled and expired. Every Kendriya Vidyalaya site that failed that day sat in that same address range, while sixteen others elsewhere responded promptly. So no section counts, no roll, no staffing table, no founding year and no stream list could be obtained here, and none has been supplied from guesswork.
Two register facts are firm. CBSE affiliates the school at senior secondary level, so Classes 11 and 12 run, and its entry carries the PM SHRI prefix marking it as designated under the National Education Policy 2020 exemplar scheme, as does the No. 2 campus. Both Tambaram schools are therefore PM SHRI schools, which means the designation is not a way to tell them apart either. The affiliation number remains the only reliable discriminator.
Licensing, inspection and complaints sit with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. The syllabus, the exams and the certificate come from CBSE, which is a different body answering different questions.

The two Tambaram campuses charge identical amounts, as does every Kendriya Vidyalaya in the country, because the sangathan sets one schedule and leaves no local discretion. So fees are not a way of choosing between them either. These figures were read from the sangathan's fee-structure page on 16 September 2026 and have not been re-fetched since, that host having stopped answering, so they are anchored to that date and should be verified at the counter. What a service family should budget for is 500 rupees a month from the first day of Class 1, 600 from Class 3 when the computer fund starts, 800 from Class 9 when tuition of 200 a month begins, and 1,000 in Classes 11 and 12 if the stream is Science. Girls in Classes 6 to 12, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe children, children of sangathan employees and Right to Education admissions pay no tuition.

Getting a seat
Age and timing
For Class 1, six completed years on 31 March of the year of admission and an age under eight, with a 1 April birthday counted as inside. Two-year bands are published for each class up to Class 10 on the same date. A defence family moving mid-posting should note that these bands are not waived for transfers.
Class 1 registration runs online during a window advertised by the Chennai Regional Office. Seat availability above Class 1 would be published on the school's own vacancy table, which sits on a site that could not be opened, so it must be established by telephone. Worth knowing: the No. 2 campus at the same station was publishing more than a hundred free places in Class 1 at the last reading, so if one school is full the other may not be.

CBSE's senior secondary affiliation confirms that Classes 11 and 12 run, but the streams are not recorded in either register and the school's own pages could not be read. The No. 2 campus at the same station runs two Science sections and one Commerce section at each senior level with no Arts, and that is the most common shape in Chennai, but it is context rather than a fact about this school.
Languages
Unknown apart from Hindi, which the Kendriya Vidyalaya system teaches everywhere. No Chennai campus in this collection publishes its third-language options, so the gap here is not simply a consequence of the site being down. How do I tell this school apart from KV No. 2 Tambaram?
By the affiliation number and nothing else. This is No. 1 with affiliation 1900005, school code 59014 and KV code 1778. No. 2 has 1900017, 59009 and 1779. Both are on the same air force station, both are PM SHRI schools, and CBSE's register currently names the same person as head of both.
Why is there so little campus detail?
The school's website did not respond on 16 September 2026 across repeated attempts on both HTTPS and HTTP. Section counts, roll, streams, staffing and founding year are published only there. Nine of the twenty-five Kendriya Vidyalaya sites checked that day failed identically, all on the same hosting range.
