Overview

What this school actually is, and who governs it

The founding story here is specific enough to be worth telling. The school opened in 1986 at the initiative of the Gas Turbine Research Establishment, the Defence Research and Development Organisation laboratory that works on aero engines, and it began with one Principal, three teachers, Classes 1 to 5 and five classrooms. Roughly two hundred children were on roll. Forty years on it carries about 2,300 and occupies 4.82 acres across three blocks labelled A, B and C. The school's own account credits DRDO throughout with buildings, laboratories, furniture, technical assistance, transport, money and extra staff, which is what a project-sector sponsor relationship looks like in practice.

Two pieces of the campus are unusual enough to name. There is a dedicated foot overbridge connecting the school directly to the nearby residential areas, so children from the DRDO colony do not cross a busy road to reach it. And there are two halls rather than one: the Kalam Hall, a covered assembly hall with a stage used for assemblies, cultural programmes and competitions, and the air-conditioned Bapuji Hall seating more than 250, used for exhibitions, workshops and collaborative academic work. The grounds also carry a skating rink, a pond and a water fountain, which is not standard Kendriya Vidyalaya provision.

The senior school is narrow and that is the trade-off. The school's section table lists two Science sections at Class 11 and two at Class 12 and no Commerce or Arts rows at all. Its genesis page says three sections at Class 11 and two at Class 12, so the two pages differ by one section, but both agree there is no second stream. For a family at a DRDO laboratory whose child is heading for Commerce, that is a reason to look at the ASC Centre or MEG Centre campuses instead, and it should be settled well before Class 10 rather than after the results.

Below Class 11 the school is one of the three deepest in the city. Five parallel sections run in every class from Class 1 to Class 10, with average enrolment per section between 40 and 47 at the reading of 2 July 2026, and no free seats anywhere in any class. Class 7 was the fullest at 233 children across five sections. The homepage counter reads 1,196 boys and 1,101 girls, about 2,297 in all, with 61 teaching and 5 non-teaching staff, which is broadly consistent with the roughly 2,500 the genesis page claims.

One conflict is worth flagging because it affects who you would be writing to. CBSE's affiliated-schools register names the principal as Glory Gnana Selvi, while the sangathan's own directory of Kendriya Vidyalayas names H Narayana Rao. Both registers were read on the same day. Principals at Kendriya Vidyalayas move on a central transfer policy, so a change between one register's refresh and the other's is the likeliest explanation, but it does mean neither name should be used in correspondence without a telephone check on 080 25243919 first.

Licensing, inspection and complaints sit with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. The syllabus, the exams and the certificate come from CBSE, which is a different body answering different questions.

Fees

What it costs, and where that number comes from

We print the published schedule or we print nothing. No ranges, no averages, no “approximately” - a parent who budgets against an invented figure finds out at the counter.

This is the sangathan's national schedule rather than a campus price list, and a school cannot raise or waive any line of it on its own authority. It was read from the sangathan's fee page on 16 September 2026 and has not been re-read since, that host having stopped responding to requests; the amounts are pinned to that date. Since the only senior stream here is Science, the Class 11 and 12 tuition that applies at this campus is the 400 rupee monthly rate rather than the 300 rupee rate, and the 300 rupee row above is shown only for completeness. Tuition exemptions run to girls in Classes 6 to 12, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe children, children of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan employees and pupils admitted against the 25 per cent Right to Education quota.

Fee increases are governed by KVS, not by the school, and that is also where a fee dispute goes.

Admissions

Getting a seat

Age and timing

Class 1 needs six years completed on 31 March of the admission year and an age under eight, with children born on 1 April treated as inside. The sangathan publishes matching two-year bands for every class up to Class 10 on the same reference date, and no campus varies them.

Class 1 registration runs online during a short advertised window on the Bengaluru Regional Office schedule. Above Class 1 there is effectively nothing available at this campus: the table read on 2 July 2026 showed zero fresh admissions in every single class from 1 to 12, which is as closed as a Kendriya Vidyalaya table gets.

What to have ready

  • Date of birth evidence falling inside the published band
  • DRDO or other central government service certificate for the parent, with the transfer history
  • Transfer certificate from the previous school for any entry above Class 1
  • Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe or OBC non-creamy-layer certificate where a reserved seat is claimed
  • Disability certificate for a Child with Special Needs seat under the 3 per cent horizontal quota
  • Residence proof for a Right to Education application

The steps, in order

  1. 1.Understand that this campus is full. Every class from 1 to 12 showed zero free seats at the last update, so realistic entry is at the Class 1 intake.
  2. 2.Register online in the advertised window; there is no counter route at Class 1.
  3. 3.If your child is likely to want Commerce or Arts later, decide now, because neither stream exists here at Class 11.
  4. 4.Bring the transfer record with the service certificate, since parental transfers over the last seven years break ties inside a category.
  5. 5.For Class 9, sit the sangathan's written test, which covers Hindi, English, Mathematics, Social Science and Science in one three-hour paper.
  6. 6.The shared rulebook, including the full priority order, is at /regulators/kvs.

Academics

What is taught, and which languages are on offer

Streams at Class 11 and 12

Science and nothing else. The section table gives two Science sections at Class 11 and two at Class 12, with no Commerce or Arts rows; the genesis page says three sections at Class 11 and two at Class 12, again with no second stream named. Given the sponsoring laboratory works on aero engines and the campus carries well-equipped science provision, the concentration is coherent, but it does close off two routes entirely and a family should plan around that from the middle school onwards.

Languages

Not published on this site. The school posts no teacher vacancy table and its genesis page describes buildings and halls rather than the curriculum, so no language provision can be stated here. Hindi runs throughout the Kendriya Vidyalaya system and the site keeps a full Hindi edition, but which third language is offered at Class 6 on this campus is a question for the office.

What it is known for

A 1986 start with three teachers under the Gas Turbine Research Establishment, a 4.82-acre three-block campus with a skating rink and a pond, and a dedicated foot overbridge linking the school to the residential colony.

For teachers

Teaching jobs at KV DRDO

Roles this kind of school hires for

  • Post Graduate Teachers in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology for the Science-only senior school
  • Trained Graduate Teachers across five sections a year through the middle school
  • Primary teachers, with five sections in each of Classes 1 to 5
  • Laboratory and technical staff, given the science-weighted provision the sponsor has funded
  • Activity and sports staff for a campus that maintains a skating rink and two assembly halls

When hiring actually runs

Contractual and part-time appointments are made by the school in the period around the April start of the academic year. Regular posts arrive only through Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan's national recruitment, which is notified centrally rather than annually, and carries liability for posting anywhere in India.

Before anyone interviews you, the paperwork is KVS’s teacher licensing route, not the school’s.

Pay, plainly

Regular staff are on the published 7th Central Pay Commission levels that apply across every Kendriya Vidyalaya: Level 6 for a Primary Teacher at 35,400 to 1,12,400 rupees, Level 7 for a Trained Graduate Teacher at 44,900 to 1,42,400, Level 8 for a Post Graduate Teacher at 47,600 to 1,51,100, Level 10 for a Vice Principal, Level 12 for a Principal and Level 4 for a Senior Secretariat Assistant. This campus does not publish a vacancy table, so which posts are currently open is not visible from outside; the sponsor is recorded as having supplied additional manpower over the years, which is a separate arrangement from the sanctioned establishment.

We list no vacancies of our own for other schools - the link goes to the employer, so nothing here can go stale on a teacher.

Questions parents ask

KV DRDO, honestly answered

Which streams run at Class 11?

Science only. The section table shows two Science sections at Class 11 and two at Class 12 with no Commerce or Arts rows, and the genesis page names no second stream either. A child heading for Commerce or Humanities needs a different Kendriya Vidyalaya, and that decision is best taken before Class 10.

Are there any seats available?

No. At the 2 July 2026 reading the school's own table showed zero fresh admissions in every class from 1 to 12. Realistic entry is at the Class 1 intake through the online registration window.

How did the school start?

In 1986, at the initiative of the Gas Turbine Research Establishment, a DRDO laboratory. It opened with one Principal, three teachers, Classes 1 to 5, five classrooms and around two hundred children, and now carries roughly 2,300 to 2,500 across 4.82 acres.

What is on the campus?

Three blocks, A, B and C, the Kalam Hall covered assembly venue with a stage, the air-conditioned Bapuji Hall seating over 250 used for exhibitions and workshops, a skating rink, a pond and a water fountain, and a foot overbridge that lets children reach the school from the colony without crossing the road.

How large are the classes?

Five parallel sections in every class from Class 1 to Class 10, with average enrolment per section between 40 and 47. Class 7 was the fullest at the last reading, with 233 children across five sections.

What does it cost?

The national Kendriya Vidyalaya schedule. Nothing in tuition to Class 8, 200 rupees a month at Classes 9 and 10, and 400 a month in Classes 11 and 12, since Science is the only stream here. On top sit a 500 rupee monthly development fund and, from Class 3, a 100 rupee computer fund. Admission is 25 rupees.

Who is the principal?

The two registers disagree. CBSE's affiliated-schools list names Glory Gnana Selvi and the sangathan's directory names H Narayana Rao, both read on the same day. Kendriya Vidyalaya principals transfer centrally, so ring 080 25243919 before addressing any correspondence.

How do teachers apply?

Regular Post Graduate, Trained Graduate and Primary Teacher posts go through Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan's central recruitment when it is notified nationally. Contractual and part-time appointments are made by the school around the start of the session in April. This campus does not publish which posts are vacant.
