PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya, M G Railway Colony, Bengaluru
The smallest Kendriya Vidyalaya in this Bengaluru group, sanctioned to South Western Railway in 1988 with five classes and one section each, and now the easiest of them to actually get into.
No published inspection grade
KVS has not published a grade we can link to for this school, so none is printed here. Ask the school which inspection year its last report covers.

What this school actually is, and who governs it
This school publishes its own founding paperwork, which is rare and rather helpful. The sanction to open a new Kendriya Vidyalaya in Bengaluru city was accorded on 27 July 1988. The sponsoring authority is recorded as South Western Railway and the sector as civil. The sanction covered Classes 1 to 5 with a single section in each, and the school opened on 19 September 1988. Everything else it has become was built on top of that one-section start.
The sector line matters more than it looks. Kendriya Vidyalayas sit in four sectors, and a railway-sponsored school in the civil sector is not a defence campus: it exists because a central government department asked for one for its employees' children in that locality, and it is open to the full civil priority order rather than to a single station's families. In practice this is the Kendriya Vidyalaya for railway households living behind Bengaluru City railway station, at M G Railway Colony, Okalipuram, Bengaluru 560023.
It is also by some distance the smallest of the Bengaluru Kendriya Vidyalayas covered here. The homepage counter reads 498 boys and 481 girls, so a roll of around 979, against about 2,470 at the ASC Centre campus and 2,561 at MEG Centre. Staff number 32, of whom 29 are teaching. The section table gives two parallel sections in every class from Class 1 to Class 10, with averages between 36 and 46.5 pupils, and one section each of Science and Commerce at Class 11 and again at Class 12.
The consequence of being small is the single most practically useful fact on this page: there are seats. Where almost every other Kendriya Vidyalaya in the city shows zero fresh admissions available, this school's table lists genuine vacancies at the senior end. Class 11 Commerce showed 29 free places against 11 enrolled, Class 11 Science 24 against 16, Class 12 Commerce 25 against 15, Class 12 Science 20 against 20, and Class 10 eight places. Those are marked Category 1, meaning the first priority category, so they are not open to all comers without reference to the priority order, but a family that qualifies and cannot get into a bigger campus has a real option here.
The staffing picture is the other side of a small school. Three senior posts stand empty against a sanctioned strength of one each: PGT Biology since April 2026, PGT Mathematics since May 2026 and PGT Hindi since July 2024. One of two TGT Social Science posts has been vacant since October 2021. Six Primary Teachers are in post against eleven sanctioned, and two multi-tasking staff against seven. When a school runs one section of Science at Class 11 and its Biology and Mathematics PGT posts are both unfilled, that is a specific question to put to the principal rather than a general observation.
Licensing, inspection and complaints sit with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. The syllabus, the exams and the certificate come from CBSE, which is a different body answering different questions.
What it costs, and where that number comes from
We print the published schedule or we print nothing. No ranges, no averages, no “approximately” - a parent who budgets against an invented figure finds out at the counter.
2026-27 tuition, by grade
Published schedule| Grade | Annual tuition (INR) |
|---|---|
| Class 9 tuition, per month | 200 |
| Class 10 tuition, per month | 200 |
| Class 11 Commerce or Humanities tuition, per month | 300 |
| Class 11 Science tuition, per month | 400 |
| Class 12 Commerce or Humanities tuition, per month | 300 |
| Class 12 Science tuition, per month | 400 |
| Computer fund from Class 3, per month | 100 |
| Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi, per month | 500 |
| Admission fee, one time | 25 |
Read this as the sangathan's schedule rather than as this school's price list, because no Kendriya Vidyalaya sets its own fees. It was taken from the sangathan fee-structure page on 16 September 2026 and has not been re-fetched since; that host has not responded on later attempts, so the date is the guarantee, not today. For a household weighing this school against a private CBSE school nearby, the comparison that matters is the annual one: a Class 5 child here costs 600 rupees a month in development fund and computer fund and nothing in tuition, while the same child at Classes 11 or 12 in Science costs 1,000 a month all in. Tuition is waived altogether for girls from Class 6 upward, for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe children, for children of KVS staff and for Right to Education admissions.

Fee increases are governed by KVS, not by the school, and that is also where a fee dispute goes.
Getting a seat
Age and timing
Six years complete by 31 March of the admission year and under eight for Class 1, with 1 April birthdays included. Each higher class up to Class 10 carries its own two-year band on the same cut-off, so a Class 8 applicant must be between thirteen and fifteen. These are sangathan-wide and are not relaxed locally.
Class 1 registration is online and time-boxed, announced by advertisement against the Bengaluru Regional Office schedule. Everything above Class 1 runs against the vacancy table instead, and unusually for this city this school's table has been carrying live seats at Classes 10, 11 and 12, so a mid-cycle enquiry here is not obviously futile.
What to have ready
- Evidence of date of birth within the published band
- Railway or other central government service certificate for the parent supporting the priority claim, with transfer details
- Transfer certificate from the previous school for any entry above Class 1
- Reservation certificate where applicable, including OBC non-creamy-layer
- Disability certificate for a Child with Special Needs seat
- Address proof where the claim is under the Right to Education quota
The steps, in order
- 1.Look at the vacancy table first; this is one of the few Kendriya Vidyalayas in Bengaluru where doing so may actually turn up a free seat.
- 2.Note that the senior vacancies are marked Category 1, so eligibility still runs through the sangathan's priority order rather than through arrival order.
- 3.Register online inside the advertised window for Class 1.
- 4.Sit the sangathan's written test if you are entering at Class 9.
- 5.For Class 11 Science, ask directly how Biology and Mathematics are being taught, given both Post Graduate Teacher posts are recorded as vacant.
- 6.The priority categories, reservations and the RTE mechanics are all set out at /regulators/kvs.

What is taught, and which languages are on offer
Streams at Class 11 and 12
Science and Commerce, one section of each at Class 11 and one at Class 12, which is the narrowest senior offer among the Bengaluru Kendriya Vidyalayas here. Both were carrying free seats at the last reading. No Humanities stream is offered. With a single section per stream per year, the range of optional subject combinations is inevitably smaller than at a three-section campus, and that is the trade-off for being able to get a seat at all.
Languages
Hindi is taught and carries a sanctioned Post Graduate Teacher post at senior level, recorded as vacant since July 2024. The staffing table names no Sanskrit post at this campus, unlike the larger Bengaluru Kendriya Vidyalayas, and Kannada does not appear on any page reached, so the second-language options here are narrower than elsewhere and are worth confirming before Class 6.
What it is known for
Publishing its 1988 sanction document, including the sponsoring authority and sector, and being the one Kendriya Vidyalaya in this Bengaluru group that regularly shows unfilled seats at Classes 10, 11 and 12.

Teaching jobs at KV MG Railway Colony
Roles this kind of school hires for
- PGT Biology, the single sanctioned post vacant since April 2026
- PGT Mathematics, vacant since May 2026
- PGT Hindi, vacant since July 2024
- TGT Social Science, one of two posts open since October 2021
- Primary Teachers, six in post against eleven sanctioned
- Multi-tasking staff and a Senior Secretariat Assistant post, both recorded as short
When hiring actually runs
With three of its senior subject posts empty, this campus is unusually dependent on the contractual route, which runs locally in the weeks before and just after the session opens in April. Regular Post Graduate, Trained Graduate and Primary Teacher appointments arrive only through the sangathan's central recruitment drives, which are notified nationally and not held every year.
Before anyone interviews you, the paperwork is KVS’s teacher licensing route, not the school’s.
Pay, plainly
The published 7th Central Pay Commission levels apply to regular staff: Level 6 for Primary Teachers at 35,400 to 1,12,400 rupees, Level 7 for Trained Graduate Teachers and for Librarians and Finance Officers at 44,900 to 1,42,400, Level 8 for Post Graduate Teachers at 47,600 to 1,51,100, Level 10 for Vice Principals and Level 12 for Principals. A small school pays the same levels as a large one. Contractual appointments made locally sit outside this and the school does not publish those terms.
We list no vacancies of our own for other schools - the link goes to the employer, so nothing here can go stale on a teacher.

KV MG Railway Colony, honestly answered
Are there actually free seats here?
Yes, which makes this school unusual in Bengaluru. Its own table showed 29 free places in Class 11 Commerce, 24 in Class 11 Science, 25 in Class 12 Commerce, 20 in Class 12 Science and eight in Class 10. They are marked Category 1, so the sangathan's priority order still governs who may take them.
Who sponsors this Kendriya Vidyalaya?
South Western Railway, and the school's own sanction record names it along with the sector, which is civil. That means it is a railway-sponsored civil-sector school rather than a defence campus, and the civil priority order applies.
How big is the school?
Small by Kendriya Vidyalaya standards. The homepage counter gives 498 boys and 481 girls, around 979 children in total, with two sections in each class from 1 to 10 and one section per stream at Classes 11 and 12. Staff number 32.
Which streams are offered at Class 11?
Science and Commerce, one section each, at both Class 11 and Class 12. There is no Humanities stream. With a single section per stream the choice of optional subjects is narrower than at a larger campus, so confirm the exact combinations before you accept a seat.
What are the fees?
The national Kendriya Vidyalaya schedule: no tuition to Class 8, 200 rupees a month at Classes 9 and 10, 300 or 400 a month at Classes 11 and 12 depending on stream, plus 500 rupees a month development fund and 100 rupees computer fund from Class 3. Admission is 25 rupees. Girls from Class 6, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe children and RTE admissions pay no tuition.
Are there enough teachers?
The school publishes the gaps itself, and they are noticeable for a school this size: the single Biology, Mathematics and Hindi Post Graduate Teacher posts were all vacant at the last reading, one Social Science TGT post has been open since 2021, and six of eleven Primary Teacher posts are filled. Ask how the senior science subjects are being covered.
Where exactly is it?
At M G Railway Colony, Okalipuram, immediately behind Bengaluru City railway station, PIN 560023. The office number is 080 23157282.
How do teachers get hired here?
Through two channels. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan recruits regular Post Graduate, Trained Graduate and Primary Teachers centrally when it notifies a drive. The school separately appoints contractual teachers around the start of the session in April, and given the number of empty sanctioned posts, that route is currently the more active one.
