What this school actually is, and who governs it
Few school websites bother to record when their buildings went up and who cut the ribbon. This one does, and the detail is worth reading because it tells you how the campus grew. The school started in 1964 in temporary accommodation inside Air Force Station Jalahalli West. The first phase of the permanent building, now the primary block, was inaugurated on 10 February 1978 by Air Commodore M L Shetty. The sports complex followed on 9 January 1979, opened by the cricketer Syed Kirmani. The three-storey secondary block came on 4 May 1983, inaugurated by Air Marshal E R P Nair. A family standing in the primary block is therefore standing in a building that is nearly fifty years old, and in the secondary block in one that is forty-three.
It is an air force campus, which sets the admission logic before anything else. Defence-sector Kendriya Vidyalayas exist first for the children of serving personnel posted to the station, and the sangathan's priority order then works outward through other central government employees, autonomous bodies, state government employees and finally everybody else. If you are not connected to the station, this is a school you can apply to but should not count on. The address is SM Road, Jalahalli West, Bengaluru 560015, and the office number is 080 28389852.
On size, the school's own pages give two answers. The genesis page states an enrolment of 2,178 across Classes 1 to 12. The homepage counter reads 1,084 boys and 1,047 girls, which comes to 2,131. Either way it is among the larger Kendriya Vidyalayas in the city, running four parallel sections in every class from Class 2 to Class 10 with average section sizes the school itself puts between 40 and 55. Class 9 was the heaviest at the last update on 17 August 2026, with 210 children across four sections.
The senior school is the interesting part, and it is in motion. The section table lists two Science sections and one Commerce section at Class 11, plus an Arts section carrying just eight pupils against thirty-two free places, and the school's news feed was running an admission notice for Class 11 Humanities at the same time. Class 12 has three Science sections and one Commerce section and no Arts at all. Read together, those two facts say the Humanities stream is new here and has not yet filled, which is useful in both directions: a child who wants Humanities has a genuine chance of a seat, and should also ask how many teachers and subject combinations that one thin section actually supports.
The staffing table is fuller than at several sister campuses. Three TGT English posts, three TGT Hindi and three TGT Social Science are all in post; PGT Chemistry runs at three of three and PGT Computer Science at two of two. The gaps are one PGT Physics post vacant since May 2025, the single PGT Biology post empty since June 2025, one TGT Mathematics post open since June 2026, and one of two TGT Sanskrit posts vacant since May 2025. Nineteen Primary Teachers are in post against twenty-four sanctioned. The support side is thinner than the teaching side: one regular sub-staff member against ten sanctioned, with a note that eight are outsourced, and all three laboratory sub-staff posts empty since April 2024.
As a PM SHRI school the campus is inside the central scheme that designates exemplar schools under the National Education Policy 2020. That brings funding and a reporting obligation; it does not alter who gets a seat, which remains entirely a matter of the sangathan's admission guidelines.
Licensing, inspection and complaints sit with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. The syllabus, the exams and the certificate come from CBSE, which is a different body answering different questions.
What it costs, and where that number comes from
We print the published schedule or we print nothing. No ranges, no averages, no “approximately” - a parent who budgets against an invented figure finds out at the counter.
2026-27 tuition, by grade
Published schedule| Grade | Annual tuition (INR) |
|---|---|
| Class 9 tuition, per month | 200 |
| Class 10 tuition, per month | 200 |
| Class 11 Commerce or Humanities tuition, per month | 300 |
| Class 11 Science tuition, per month | 400 |
| Class 12 Commerce or Humanities tuition, per month | 300 |
| Class 12 Science tuition, per month | 400 |
| Computer fund from Class 3, per month | 100 |
| Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi, per month | 500 |
| Admission fee, one time | 25 |
These figures belong to the sangathan, not to this campus, and no Kendriya Vidyalaya may charge anything different. They were taken from the fee-structure page on 16 September 2026 and have not been re-fetched since, because that host has since stopped responding; read them as accurate as of that date. Where parents usually get caught out is the assumption that a free school is free. Tuition really is nil to Class 8, but the Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi at 500 rupees a month runs from the start, and from Class 3 a computer fund of 100 rupees a month joins it. Tuition itself only appears at Class 9, at 200 rupees a month, rising to 300 or 400 in the senior years depending on whether the stream is Science. Tuition exemptions cover girls from Class 6 upward, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe children, children of sangathan staff and Right to Education admissions.

Fee increases are governed by KVS, not by the school, and that is also where a fee dispute goes.
Getting a seat
Age and timing
Class 1 entry requires a child to have completed six years by 31 March of the admission year and to be under eight; a birthday of 1 April counts as inside the window. Every class to Class 10 has its own two-year band measured from the same date, published in the sangathan's guidelines, and the school cannot widen them.
Class 1 and Balvatika registration opens online after a newspaper advertisement, on a schedule the Bengaluru Regional Office fixes, normally in the early months of the year for an April start. This school posts its provisional selection lists and its cancelled-seat lists on its own updates feed, and there were several rounds during 2026, so a family not selected in the first list should keep watching rather than give up.
What to have ready
- Date of birth proof for the child
- The serving parent's air force or central government service certificate, with transfer history
- School leaving or transfer certificate for entry above Class 1
- Category certificate for a reserved seat, including OBC non-creamy-layer where claimed
- Medical certificate of disability for a Child with Special Needs application
- Residence proof for a Right to Education seat
The steps, in order
- 1.Establish which priority category your family falls into first, because at a station school that single fact drives almost every outcome.
- 2.Register through the sangathan's online portal for Class 1 and Balvatika during the advertised dates.
- 3.For Class 11 Humanities in particular, watch the school's own admission notices, since the stream was still advertising seats when this record was written.
- 4.For Class 9, prepare for the written admission test the sangathan sets at that entry point.
- 5.For any class from 2 upward, check the school's vacancy table before applying, then follow the school's update feed for list releases and cancellations.
- 6.The full priority order, the reservation percentages and the Right to Education rules are collected at /regulators/kvs rather than repeated on every school page.

What is taught, and which languages are on offer
Streams at Class 11 and 12
Science, Commerce and a Humanities stream that is still establishing itself. The genesis page describes the school as offering Science and Commerce at the plus-two level and has not caught up with the Arts section that now appears on the section table at Class 11. That section held eight pupils with thirty-two places free at the last reading, while Class 12 has no Arts section at all, which is what a first cohort looks like. Science runs two sections at Class 11 and three at Class 12; Commerce runs one at each level.
Languages
Hindi and Sanskrit both carry sanctioned posts, three Trained Graduate Teachers in Hindi with all three filled, and two in Sanskrit with one vacant since May 2025. English has three TGT posts, all in post. No page reached mentions Kannada, and the site does not state a medium-of-instruction policy, so both are questions for the office rather than facts that can be stated here.
What it is known for
A documented building chronology, including a sports complex opened by the cricketer Syed Kirmani in January 1979, and a Humanities stream introduced recently enough that Class 11 has one and Class 12 has none.

Teaching jobs at KV No. 1 Jalahalli
Roles this kind of school hires for
- PGT Physics, one sanctioned post vacant since May 2025
- PGT Biology, the single sanctioned post empty since June 2025
- TGT Mathematics, one of four posts open since June 2026
- TGT Sanskrit, one of two posts vacant since May 2025
- Primary Teachers, nineteen in post against twenty-four sanctioned
- Laboratory sub-staff, with all three sanctioned posts unfilled since April 2024
When hiring actually runs
This campus advertises walk-in interviews for part-time contractual teachers and posts the notices on its own feed, with a recent one dated mid-July, so the contractual round here sits in the run-up to and the opening weeks of the session rather than after it. Regular teaching posts come only through Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan's central recruitment, on whatever timetable the sangathan announces.
Before anyone interviews you, the paperwork is KVS’s teacher licensing route, not the school’s.
Pay, plainly
Regular staff are paid on published 7th Central Pay Commission levels, which is the part of a Kendriya Vidyalaya job a candidate can verify before applying. A Kendriya Vidyalaya's own remuneration disclosure gives Principal at Level 12, 78,800 to 2,09,200 rupees; Vice Principal at Level 10, 56,100 to 1,77,500; Post Graduate Teacher at Level 8; Trained Graduate Teacher at Level 7; Primary Teacher at Level 6; and Senior Secretariat Assistant at Level 4. Part-time contractual appointments made by the school are outside this matrix and the terms are not published.
We list no vacancies of our own for other schools - the link goes to the employer, so nothing here can go stale on a teacher.

KV No. 1 Jalahalli, honestly answered
Is this the same school as KV No. 2 Jalahalli?
No. There are two Kendriya Vidyalayas on the two Jalahalli air force stations. This one is at Jalahalli West with CBSE affiliation 800004 and dates from 1964; the other is at Jalahalli East with affiliation 800016 and dates from 1983. Different campuses, different rolls, different section counts.
Can my child join Class 11 Humanities here?
Possibly, and the odds are better than usual. The section table showed one Arts section at Class 11 with eight pupils enrolled and thirty-two places free, and the school was running a Class 11 Humanities admission notice at the same time. There is no Arts section at Class 12 yet, so this is a new stream rather than an established one. Ask which subject combinations it actually supports.
Do I have to be air force to apply?
No, but this is a defence-sector campus and the sangathan's priority order puts children of transferable central government employees, including serving defence personnel and ex-servicemen, first. Civilian applicants come well down the list. The complete order is set out at /regulators/kvs.
How much will I pay each month?
Up to Class 8 there is no tuition, but the Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi at 500 rupees a month applies from the start and a 100 rupee computer fund is added from Class 3. Tuition begins at Class 9 at 200 rupees a month and is 300 or 400 a month in Classes 11 and 12 depending on stream. Admission costs 25 rupees. Girls from Class 6, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe children and Right to Education admissions do not pay tuition.
How large are the classes?
Four sections in each year from Class 2 to Class 10, with the school's own average enrolment per section running from about 40 in Class 2 up to 55 in Class 9. At the August 2026 reading, Classes 7, 8 and 9 each carried 200 or more children.
Which subjects are short of teachers?
The school publishes this itself. At the last reading, Biology at Post Graduate Teacher level had nobody in post, one Physics PGT post was vacant, one Mathematics TGT post and one Sanskrit TGT post were open, and five Primary Teacher posts were unfilled. Kendriya Vidyalayas cover gaps with locally appointed contractual teachers.
When are the admission lists published?
On the school's own updates feed rather than by post or telephone. During 2026 it carried a fifth provisional list for Class 1 and separate lists of cancelled seats, so seats do move after the first round and it is worth watching the feed through the cycle.
How do teachers apply for a job here?
Regular Post Graduate, Trained Graduate and Primary Teacher posts are recruited centrally by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan whenever it notifies a drive. This school separately advertises walk-in interviews for part-time contractual teachers on its own notice feed, most recently in mid-July, and its teacher vacancy page lists which posts are actually open.
